"Nothing?" Sharon repeated even though Stevie had already answered her question. Stevie shook her head. "You haven't seen each other?"
"No." Stevie sighed, folding her arms over her chest.
"Not even a phone call?" Sharon kept pushing.
"Christ, Sharon! No!" Stevie snapped, she jumped to her feet and made some space between her and her friend. "We haven't seen each other, we haven't talked. Just-" She stopped pacing and faced Sharon, she shook her head. "Nothing."
If anyone had taken bets, Sharon would have made a pretty penny. She knew, it was going to happen, though, she kept her mouth shut and let Stevie dive head first into her fantasy.
"Well-" Sharon paused, she gave a weak shrug of her shoulders, not believing a word she was about to say. "Maybe he was busy with something. Maybe some family stuff."
Stevie rolled her eyes then gave Sharon a look as if asking, seriously? "I don't get it." Stevie took a deep breath, she exhaled slowly, rubbing out angry tears that had started gathering in her eyes. "We had such a good night together. We talked about so many things from our past and then..." She shrugged. "He asked me to leave because he needed time. I said, okay. Everything did happen kinda fast, I understood, but..." She trailed off then anger took over again. "And now he's fucking late! The audacity! We're all here, even I'm-" Stevie pointed at herself. "On time and he's God knows-"
Sharon cleared her throat loudly, hoping to stop Stevie's rant. And she stopped, following Sharon's line of sight, which went over just above her shoulder. Stevie turned around and her eyes landed on Lindsey, who stared right back at her, panting in the doorway.
"I- I'm sorry- for being la- late." Lindsey managed, trying to catch his breath. "My car- i-it broke down, I-"
"Take a second to breathe, jeez." Stevie interrupted, relieved to see him, but still very much pissed off.
"Can we, uh- t-talk?" Lindsey asked before inhaling deeply.
"I think, you've already wasted enough of everyone's time by being late." Stevie replied, arms crossed, his eyes still on her, silently pleading for just a moment alone. "Fine." Stevie gave in, asking Sharon to leave the small space that she used as a dressing room during rehearsals. "You have five minutes." Stevie spoke up once the door was closed.
"I know I'm an ass, don't bother telling me." Lindsey started, having calmed down, Stevie scoffed. "I didn't intend to-"
"It's been over a month, Lindsey." Stevie emphasized, interrupting him again.
"I know! I know and I'm sorry." Lindsey lay a hand over his heart. "It just... a couple of days went by, then a week, two weeks, I- I-" He stuttered, the look on Stevie's face let him know that she wasn't buying it. "I didn't think that night meant as much to you as it did to me. I honestly thought that you'd run out of patience and call me instead of waiting for me to call you. I got scared. Yes, you're right, a lot happened and it happened fast. When I told you, I didn't want to get hurt - I don't. I thought that it was better to leave it before we ruined it."
"It didn't mean as much to me?" Stevie asked, eyebrows raised. "I don't think I've ever been as open with you as I was that night. I wouldn't have said half the things I said if it didn't mean anything to me."
"You're right." Lindsey nodded in agreement, he took a step closer. "You're right and it's completely my fault-"
"You know what? It is your fault. Who gave you the right to decide what and how I feel? If you had only hoped for a one night stand, well, then you should have said so. You didn't need to pretend-"
"I didn't pretend!" Lindsey yelled out, shaking his head. "That's exactly what I didn't want because we've been there one too many times! You come crawling to me, you get your kicks and leave me - that's not what I want!"
"So, what you're trying to say that it's actually my fault-"
"Oh my God, Stevie!" Lindsey threw his arms up in the air, frustrated. "I'm not- I'm not trying to say anything, I-"
"This was a mistake." Stevie held up her hands, stopping him from coming any closer after he'd moved towards her again. "And a fucking waste of time." She added and turned to walk out.
Quick, do something! Lindsey realized that it might have not been the right move, but he was desperate. He stretched out his arm and managed to grab her wrist just in time, pulling her back, causing her front to smash against his. Anger flashed in her eyes and her breathing got heavier, but he didn't give her a chance to say or do anything, when he brought his hand up to her face and captured her lips. The lack of response let him know that she wasn't expecting him to do that. Before she could react and likely separate them then slap him across the face, he walked her a couple of steps back and pushed her against the wall, one hand flat on it to block her way out, the other gripping her side, keeping her lower body pressed firmly against his. Completely taken aback, she wasn't quick enough to realize that she was supposed to hate him right now before she started kissing him back. She soon felt him hard as a rock against her belly and all she really wanted to do was get him naked, but-
A loud knock on the door pulled them apart, they stared at each other wide-eyed, breathing heavily. "Uhm, Stevie? You okay in there?" Sharon asked. "People are waiting."
Stevie sighed heavily, she ran a hand through her hair. "I'll be out in a minute!" She replied, eyes still locked with Lindsey.
Hearing footsteps getting farther away from the door, Lindsey cupped Stevie's face much gentler this time, he ran the pad of his thumb over her bottom lip. "Come to my place tonight." He said and pecked her on the lips before stepping away.
