NOISE. HIGH-IRRITABLE noise is what I want to draw out of my ears in the boy's locker room. I chew on the MnM's, crushing between my teeth as I change into my gym t-shirt, hoping that sugar can draw out Connor's laugh louder than the boys' conversations.
"I'm telling you, I had to teach her a lesson," he says, typing on his phone. A slight smirk appears on the edge of his lips as he sits on one of the metal benches right by the door.
One of the guys pats his back with a wide grin. "I agree. Someone had to put her in her place."
"Who're you guys talking about?" asks Damon, shutting his locker.
"Dawn," Connor chuckles.
"Who even names their kid that?" says one of the boys.
"What did you do?" Damon demands, balling his fists.
"Nothing that concerns you,"
Damon swiftly walks over to him, grabs him by the collar, and yells: "WHAT DID YOU DO?!"
The other guys grab and push him away as Connor fixes his collar. Damon runs back to him, teeth tightly clenched, and punches Connor.
The impact causes Connor to throw his head back in pain while he holds his hand to his nose in agony. He growls in anger.
"Hold him," he orders his group of minions. They throw Damon against a locker as he battles against them. "That wasn't a smart move," adds Connor before he punches Damon in the stomach.
"That'll teach him to mind his ass," chuckles Brent.
Connor is ready to throw another punch when I speed over to him, "That's enough,"
"Get off me!" He shoves me away from him. "Can't mind your own business either?"
"He's my friend,"
He turns his head, snickering at Damon, "This idiot?"
"You need to chill, Connor,"
"Now that I think about it, why are you so worried about Dawn anyway?"
Connor's question gets me thinking, too. Why is Damon so concerned about her?
"Are you in wuv with her?" mocks Connor in a baby-like voice, which gets everyone in the locker room laughing their butts off.
He prepares another punch for Damon, but I place my hand on his arm, "Enough, Connor,"
He nods, settling his hands to his sides, "You know, maybe I should give this punch to you instead!"
It happens so quickly that I don't see it coming. He rams his knuckles into my left eye, sending me falling to the ground.
The next thing I hear is Coach yelling about someone having to go to the Principal's office.

My insides are surprisingly calm, especially after the chaos in the cafeteria. My hands aren't quaking, my heart isn't galloping, and my body is free of sweat at the moment.
