LANA IS TELLING ME something funny as we walk together to leave our bags in our lockers. But the air is not the same today, and there's a commotion as people are glued to the lockers and walls, staring at something. Lana looks at me for any indication, but I just shrug.
We force our way through the crowd, finally reaching the forefront to see what seem to be printed papers of diary entries. They've been stuck everywhere on the lockers and the walls for everyone to see. Getting a closer look, the diary entries turn out to be Ruby's as she talks about her anxiety and issues with Connor.
The hallway is a ruckus of mixed emotions, with some snickering at the entries and others just bewildered that someone would post something like this. Lana and I are on the latter side, taking a step back just as a girl screams at the end of the hallway.
The scream catches everyone's attention, and people start gathering around the girl, taking out their phones to film. Lana and I manage to peep through two guys to find that the girl is Ruby, and she's screaming at Cara.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"Asking you to take these down, Cara,"
"And what makes you think I did it? Do you have proof?"
Ruby snarls at Cara, who looks like she's at the top of the world. "I don't need proof to know that you're a two-faced she-devil,"
"Speak for yourself,"
Just then, a tsunami of pings and buzz sounds around the hallway, including mine. Everyone takes out their phones, and I mimic the action, going straight for the notification from the web. There's an article exposing Ruby for being behind Elle Woodly's pregnancy announcement and an article humiliating the poor girl.
Some people's eyes rotate to me, some holding an internal apology and others astonished. A video pops up of Ruby admitting to a friend that she posted the news about Elle and how hilarious she finds it that everyone thinks it was me. Ruby continues by revealing that she was in the bathroom the whole time our interaction was happening.
Ruby lifts her head from her phone, her face an inferno of rage as she clenches her teeth.
"You think you can accuse me without proof? Well, let's not forget that you broke my leg just so you could take my place as cheer captain. Karma had to make its way back somehow," snarls Cara.
"YOU WITCH!" Ruby screams, running straight for Cara, who stumbles back with her crutches. Ruby makes the girl fall before grabbing her hair and punching her head.
"Let go of me, you idiot!" yells Cara, who pulls Ruby's skirt while throwing punches to the sides of her tummy. Cara uses her upper body strength to throw Ruby over to her side, but Ruby doesn't let go, which results in them rolling around on the floor. This gets some people laughing and I roll my eyes, about to step in when a delicate hand stops me, "Don't. You'll just be dragging yourself into their mess,"
Just then, a teacher's voice sounds in the background, causing people to part like the Red Sea. He makes his way to the center of the fight and tries to break the girls apart, specifically, Ruby who is drowned out by rage. "That's enough, Ruby! I don't think your father will be happy to hear about this,"
"Sir," cries out Cara, feigning pain as she holds onto her casted leg. "She just jumped on me, even though I'm wounded. I didn't know how to defend myself. How could she be so mean,"
