Rosalie walks up the porch of her humble abode. Dani, who is dead weight in the blonde's arms, rests her head on Rosalie's shoulder. She has a death grip around the vampire's neck to feel security after earlier's events. Rosalie has Mr. Hops in her grasp because Dani dropped it on the run to the house. Let's just say that the brunette was a very unhappy toddler. Rosalie opens the door, and Esme and Carlisle immediately turn their heads to look at the couple.
"Oh, is the poor girl alright?" Esme asks frantically. "What happened?"
"Her dad," Rosalie snarls. "The way she's acting now is what I have no idea about."
Esme frowns.
"She said that her father kicked her knee. Isn't that what happened, Dani?"
The brunette just nods her head the slightest bit. Her grips tightens around Rosalie's neck. Carlisle shuffles forward to not scare the girl and places his cold hand gently on Dani's back.
"Let's take a look at your knee, yeah?" He asks softly.
Rosalie goes to set her mate on the ground, but a blood curdling scream is the result of said movement. With the pain in her knee, Dani drops to the ground on her butt. Tears pour down her cheeks. Her face is flushed red and pink from the distress.
"Up, up, up!" is all Dani yells.
Her eyes are blown wide with childish innocence. None of the vampires are understanding Dani's situation. Carlisle acts quick and lifts the brunette to his hip before walking to his study to aid the girl. He sets Dani down on a recliner, and the toddler whines, missing the small comfort she received from being held in these stressful times.
"Hush now. Let's see the damage of that knee," Carlisle speaks softly.
Dani whimpers and turns her head to face the wall. She keeps her mind and eyes focused on a vase of red roses that are sitting on a dark oak shelf next to many books. Carlisle uses her distraction to his advantage. He lifts Dani's right pants leg to her thigh. He winces at the slight bruising and sprain the poor brunette was given. After wrapping her knee in a bandage, Carlisle hears Dani whine and point at the vase.
"What about the flowers, Dear?" he asks.
"Can I have one?"
Carlisle's eyes soften at the innocence radiating off of Dani. He understands that the teen has regressed, but the question is why. Leaving his thoughts behind for now, Carlisle grabs a single rose from the vase and tries to hand it to Dani. However, the brunette whines frustratedly.
"Cut the t'orns off?" she asks sweetly. "P'ease!"
Carlisle chuckles and grabs a pair of scissors. He cuts the thorns as close as possible to the stem of the pretty rose without damaging it.
When Dani gets the rose back, she giggles and slides off the recliner. She walks to the door with a small limp but has no care. Dani opens the door to walk back into the living room. The rest of the vampires made their way to check up on the toddler. When Dani makes eye contact with her blonde crush, she blushes and runs to hide behind Esme. Esme chuckles when she feels a tug on the rim of her shirt. Dani looks at her with a flushed face.
"Um..I 'ike Rose, and I got her a gif'," Dani whispers. The other Cullens turn their heads away so the brunette doesn't see their smiles because they all heard her.
"Well, why don't you go give it to her, Little One?" Esme asks with a soft smile.
Dani blushes at the nickname and feels warm on the inside like she is getting praised. She gulps, hides the rose behind her back, and slowly strides to Rosalie. Dani stands in front of the blonde with her head hanging, looking at her feet like they're the most interesting thing. Rosalie raises her left eyebrow and smirks.
"Why, hello there, Cutie."
"Um, I-I got you a rose.." Dani stutters.
The brunette shoved the rose into her crush's hand and blushes more. Rosalie chuckles softly because Dani was acting so adorable.
"So sweet," Rosalie says while kissing Dani in the cheek.
Dani squealed and giggled. She ran to Emmett and pulled on his shirt sleeve.
"Di' you see t'at, Bubba? She 'ave me a 'iss!" Dani said excitingly, thinking that she was whispering softly.
"Good job! She's so pretty, too. You scored a good one!" Emmett said cheerily, winking at the brunette.
None of the vampires missed how Dani basically called the bulky one her brother. It was heart warming to the family. Esme walks over to Dani and lifts her up onto her hip. Dani whines at being taken away from Emmett.
"Okay, Little One. We gotta feed that monster that's in your tummy," Esme says as she tickles Dani gently.
"So..," Carlisle drags on as the pair walk to the kitchen. When everybody has their attention on him, he continues.
"Obviously, Danielle is acting a lot younger than her physical age. It's called age regression. It's a mindset some individuals dive into, for example, for stress relief or trauma. I don't know why she regressed, but I don't think anybody will figure that out until she's 'big' again."
"I tried reading her thoughts, but they were so jumbled up," Edward says.
"She wasn't very happy at first, but after giving away the rose, she was real excited," Jasper says with Alice holding onto his arm.
Rosalie listens intently to everyone yet blocks them out. Shes glad that Dani seems to be okay for now in her joyous state, but she's worried for when they have a sit and talk.
