The first week of school went by quickly for everyone. The class work and elective work piled up almost instantly and the group dedicated a lot of their free time to studying together or practicing their specialties.

After his last class of the day, San begrudgingly made his way back to his dorm and face planted into his shared couch in the common space. He sighed loudly, as Yunho, who was sitting in a chair next to the couch, reading, chuckled at him.

"Hard day?" Yunho asked.

San then replied, "My hand is still cramping from the amount of notes I had to take."

"Well, get some rest now. Don't forget about the beach party later tonight."

San just groaned as a response.

"Oh also, we got mail delivered today. Here, this is for you." Yunho handed San an envelope and San sat up on the couch.

The envelope had nothing written on it aside from the words Choi San, written in a pretty, cursive font.

San had an uneasy feeling rush towards his stomach, as skeptically, he felt he remembered that handwriting. He immediately got up and went into his room, closing the door.

The Jung's and his foster family lived close by, and aside from them and his few friends at school, there was no one who would have sent him a letter.

He sat down on his bed. He then tore the envelope open and unfolded the piece of paper inside. The letter read -

Dear San,

I heard that you started your last year of high school at Seacoast Academy. I am so proud, but not surprised because I always knew how good you were at school. You are smarter and more mature than most other kids your age.

I'm sorry about how the last few times we've talked during the years were not good. I wasn't even sure if you got my last few letters, but I figured I would try to reach out again.

I wanted to let you know that I am recovering and sober now. You might not believe me, but this time is for sure. I can say this because I met someone who has been helping me through it all. I go to my meetings and I have been keeping up with a good job.

Despite me working at this job, recovery and getting back into the real world is expensive. I am back in town and was wondering if you wanted to meet and be able to talk again. I was also wondering because of how you're now going to that school, if you have any extra money you could lend me.

I miss you so much my sweet boy and hope I will get to see you soon.

Love mom

San angrily threw the letter onto the floor. He couldn't help the flood of tears that began falling from his face. The tears turned into a sob as,  for a moment, he couldn't control how hard he was crying.
