The following Monday after the beach party, Faye was sat in a booth in the corner of a diner about twenty minutes away from campus. It was early in the morning and she kept on fidgeting because sitting next to the window made the air a bit frigid. She tapped her nails on the table and took sips of her hot coffee to keep warm.

She inattentively scrolled on her phone, checking the time and looking around the diner every few minutes. Her attention was finally caught when she heard a voice call to her from the edge of the table.

"Faye? It's been so long, you look beautiful," a woman spoke. Her eyes squinted from the big smile on her face. She had short black hair with bangs that covered her eyebrows. Even though her complexion had a gentle glow, her shirt, peaking through her coat had a stain and rip in it. She opened her arms, expectant of a hug, but Faye quickly said, "Yea okay. Um. Please sit."

The lady's once big smile completely fell from her face as she took her spot in the booth, facing Faye.

"Thanks for agreeing to meet with me. I'm glad after so long I could get a hold of at least one of you kids. So, I know this isn't ideal, but I was hoping-"

"Please don't take this the wrong way, but I didn't agree to meet with you to catch up."

"Oh, okay then." The women responded, immensely more defeated than before.

"San is fine and he doesn't want to reconnect with you right now. He's been hurt and he lost all his trust in you. I'm sorry to be blunt, but that's how it is."

"I wouldn't expect anything more, but I want him to know that I'm not like how I left him. I'm better, I'm sober, I'm starting over."

"And I believe you. But he's blinded by hurt and hatred. So, here's what's gonna happen. Because you were like a second mom to me my whole life, I feel like I owe you something. I don't know." Faye paused and shifted her focus away. She put her hands in her lap and twisted her thumbs around.

Faye then continued, "You said you needed money for your recovery right? I can give you some money, if you promise to stop trying to reach out to San. It's not gonna be forever, but maybe once you've truly recovered, I can set up something and reintroduce you two?" Faye was the complete opposite of her normal demeanor, her voice quiet, shaky and unconfident.

"I would love that, sweetie." Ms.Choi replied, softly. She was about to continue talking, but Faye's phone rang, disrupting their conversation.

"Hey Sumi, what's up?"

"Hey girl, where are you?"

"Um, not on campus yet, why what's up?"

"Did you forget about the extra practice we have this morning? It's really important because we're learning the audition pieces for the ballet show."

"What? I never knew about that."

"I forgot. You left early that day before Ms.Nari announced it. Hana was supposed to tell you."
