Avi gazed pensively out at the ocean. He winced a bit as he tried to rotate his shoulder, the ache of torn skin and weary muscles begging him to rest. Unfortunately that didn't seem to be very high on the list of things to do.
The sun was creeping towards the horizon and every moment that passed left them increasingly more vulnerable. He'd really wanted to try and discover civilization much earlier but it had taken quite some time and effort to pry Mitch away from the phone and the man on the other end of the line. He didn't like to rush him, but he had no idea where they were and they needed to come up with some sort of a plan. Time was of the essence and while it was no Shade Lands, Earth wasn't all Disney World and woodland creatures. Who knew how effective the fae would be when facing down the barrel of a gun. Not that there were guns out on castaway island or wherever the heck they were but you never know. Besides, things were different now that they were in his world.
Without any of them noticing the dynamic had begun to shift the moment they'd stepped foot onto the sand. The change in leadership had been an almost automatic transition and Avi had been the one rounding up the curious siblings who'd been exploring the new world and their emotional wreck of a prince. It was time to move forward and everyone, miraculously, agreed.
Before leaving they'd decided to give Sora a proper 'funeral' by fae standards. What that meant was each of them saying a few words (the fae in a language he didn't understand) and then the three of them joined magic to change the little body into thousands of tiny sparkling lights that shot up into the sky. According to Oryn they would settle among the stars where Sora could watch over the veil and make sure it remained safe.
Avi wasn't sure how astronomers would explain that but who was he to argue with magic.
Currently they were just waiting on Mitchell to have a few moments alone to mourn the loss of his dragon and then they would be on their way. Avi tried to remain relaxed, looking to the sun and the ever changing ocean to calm him, but there were too many thoughts that still had to be sorted and settled and he just couldn't seem to quiet them.
"The light changes your sky much like Illyria's. Perhaps our worlds are not quite so different after all."
He turned to face the beautiful woman who had come to stand shoulder to shoulder with him. He watched the bright orange and yellows of that changing sky reflect off of her fair skin, her golden eyes appearing to burn and glow like the sun itself. He was completely captivated and continued to stare, even when she turned those eyes to meet his with a sweet smile.
"Are you alright, Avriel?"
"I am." He felt his worries begin to fade away as the warmth and overwhelming love he felt for her began to invade his senses. She really was exceptional and the weight of just how much she meant to him seemed to fill his chest all at once.
"I love you." He whispered.
She seemed to soften, to melt into the words that held so much meaning to both of them. "and I love you, Avriel."
He reached up to push a piece of hair from her face as he'd done so many times before and slid the back of his fingers down her cheek.
"Oryn...I," the words hung in his throat momentarily, trying to organize themselves in some semblance of order. He wasn't sure why these words wanted out at this very moment, but they began to push upwards until he couldn't contain them any longer. " I've never felt this way before. I don't know that I deserve you, or rather... I know I don't deserve you, and I don't know where we will end up, but I do know that I don't think I could survive without you. I know I'm not the best looking man or the strongest or the bravest, and I know I'm not magical like you, but I love you ...and will do everything in my power to show you just how much. I know you don't need protecting, least of all from me, but I would die before I let someone hurt you. I don't know and I don't really care if it's magic that holds us together. To me it doesn't matter. Love is the scariest thing I've ever had to face, but no matter what happens, no matter the worry or the fear or the injuries and pain... I have zero regrets. I want you to know that you're worth it, all of it. You're worth the risk, the uncertainty. You're worth everything. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me. I just... want you to know how much you mean to me. I love you with all of my heart."
