Oryn shifted her weight back and forth between her feet. If she hadn’t been there, had been even a second later, then he would have been lost to the sea.
She knew that the magic that ran through everything here in their world had helped aid her in saving her friend, but she was only so powerful, not nearly as powerful as Mitchell and she could only do so much.
She’d been able to cushion the blow, giving every bit of strength she could muster, but the blue pillow of magic, even aided by the golden glow of the core, had only slowed the fae’s descent just enough to save his life. She’d called on the Water Phoenix to aid her in bringing his broken body back to her home in the trees.
She knew that she really needed to go to the King, but also that Mitchell would never forgive her if she did. She had to do this on her own. His mother had been the only one she knew personally with the power to create a healing serum, and any other fae that had the ability would not do it simply by her request, and never without a price. She had to do this on her own and she knew exactly what she needed to do, she just had to hope she’d have the strength.
As she stared at the damaged body of her best friend, she could feel that the trees were just as worried, just as determined to save their prince as she was. They gladly lent her some strength, giving her enough magic to surround him in a cocoon of shimmering gold and blue. The concentrated magic would heal him in time, but to what end? Would he just do it all over again?
If she went to the King, she knew he could hide the lost fae's memories, could mask them so that maybe he could live again, but she knew she would have to tell him everything before he would agree to. And again, if Mitchell ever found out he would never, ever speak to her again.
Before such drastic measures she had to at least try one other option first.
It was probably a mistake, and it would be more dangerous than anything she'd ever done, but he was worth it.

She stood in front of the veil, eyes a pale pink, yellow flecks slowly swimming around them. She was absolutely terrified, but she knew what she had to do.
She thought of Mitchell, nestled in his golden shell, healing. The tree she made her home in had wound it’s limbs together, sheltering him, protecting him while she was gone.
She dug her fingers deep down into the soil, letting gifted magic flow into her. She noticed the various beings watching from the edges of the forest, their eyes sad as they realized what was at stake.
The tiniest pygmy rabbit came hopping from the tree line and sat at her feet. She lifted the furry little girl into her hands and nuzzled her with her cheek. She felt the tiny tingle as the creature gifted her with as much magic and strength as it's small body would allow. She couldn't help but smile even though her eyes filled with tears. “I will do my best, little one. I promise. Keep safe, my friend.” She gently placed the sad creature back down on the grass and watched her hop away before turning to the patch of shimmering air.
She wasn’t quite sure what to expect, she didn’t even know what this Scott human looked like except what Mitchell had described, but she prayed for luck to be on their side as she took two steps forward and closed her eyes as she passed through the veil.
