Aiden's Pov:

I had went to sleep to try and feel a bit better. When I woke up I was in a weird dusty small room. What I'd imagine an empty janitor's closet would look like. The only things here were rusty pipes sticking out of the wall, and a dirty matress and small blanket.

I look around and see Ashlyn. I see Ashlyn. Where am I? Why is she here? She was at the school wasn't she? She's laying down on the cold concrete floor, I presume she's asleep. I pick her up and put her on the mattress. I do my best to cover her with the small blanket and I attempt to wake her.

She doesn't wake up.

How strange.

Due to experience, (sleepovers) I know Ashlyn is an incredibly light sleeper, wakes up at a pin's dropping. I shake her.

She hardly sleeps most nights, she tries to hide it but I've always known.

Yet the one time I really need her to be awake she won't wake up. I start to panic and I notice a small cut on her arm. It's like a poke, but bloody. Like if you were to get a shot and the doctor took it out a bit too roughly, so it tore a bit of skin. I panic. 'Is she sedated?'- I think.

I hold her face to my chest, and pull her body closer to mine. I think- 'they can't hurt her. I won't let them.'

What seems to be hours later, I feel her arm gently snake around my torso.

"Ash, hey are you okay?" I whisper, as not to scare her or wake her too suddenly. She wearily blinks before looking up at me.

"Aiden."

"Yeah. Yeah, I'm here." I try to force a smile. I don't want to worry her.

"...Where are we?" 'Fuck'- I think. The one question I can't answer.

"I-... I don't actually know. Are you alright? Do you... remember anything" Ashlyn gasps before sitting up abruptly and looking around.

"Mr. Thomas."

"What- What about him?" I ask, rubbing her arm to calm her down.

"He was the one that convinced me to show my parents my braids, remember? And- and, and they saw my shadow normally, but he didn't, remember? he- he saw what we saw." She lays down again, partially.

"Yes. I remember."

"He-... He told me we were being spied on and- and remember when we were training and I heard footsteps, and we looked around the bus and there was a bird- a- a crow, and Tyler said what I'd hear was probably just the bird-." She rambles.

"Oh... shit." Thinking about it, Ashlyn's onto something.

"Mr. Thomas is one of them."

"Do you know that for a fact?"

"Well yes. He handed me a book, with pictures- pictures of us. before I could look at them some people came up behind Taylor and Ben and Logan and ambushed them, and while I was distracted looking back at them, I felt a syringe poke into my arm- and-..." She trails off.

"And?" I ask. She holds her head, I finally see a dark bruise forming on the side of her head, above her right eyebrow.

"I don't know.." She looks upset by this.

"Hey, don't touch it."

"Ok..." She looks at me. "Are you okay?"

"Fine. Thanks. I was asleep the whole time anyway." She looks at me horrified. "Ash, what's wrong?"

"I-... No, nevermind."

"Ash."

"You haven't smiled the whole time I've been talking and-... and, it makes sense- I... It just-... I've never really seen you like this and it's..." She trails off once again.

Ashlyn's Pov:

"Are you sure you're okay?" I finally ask.

"Well, no. Ash. And you aren't either and neither are Ben or Tyler, or Taylor or Logan, but we can't do much about our situation, especially now." This was a way I'd never heard Aiden Clark speaking. Realistically hopeless. Since when did he make sense? Since when did he give up? lose hope?

"Don't say that."

"Ashlyn."

"Aiden, stop it." My bottom lip quivers as I hold back tears. "YOU can't say stuff like that."

"What do you mean?"

"YOU'RE supposed to say everything's great, and you're supposed to smile, and joke and- and, and be the one that proves everyone who doubted you or doubted my plans or doubted- y'know, whatever, that THEY'RE wrong. And that WE win." I finally break down as he frowns hearing me say this. I realize as I'm saying It how wrong it is for me to expect so much of him. He wipes my tears to no avail, and when he realizes that's not working, he pulls me into a hug, resting my head against his chest. "Aiden... I need you to promise me something." I say.

"Anything." He whispers, kissing the top of my head gently.

"That you won't leave me, and that you won't let them separate us. Or at least- at least that you'll try to stay with me. Say 'I promise'." I finally let out through choked sobs.

"I promise. And- if we do get separated I need you to know I love you. I've loved you ever since I have known you." He admits, heartfeltly.

"I love you, too. So, so much. So if worse comes to worse and we have to separate promise me this; you won't let anyone hurt you. No matter what."

"Ash, what if that means YOU get hurt?"

"PROMISE ME."

"Ash-"

"Aiden please." He sighs, before hesitantly saying,

"I promise."
