The next morning, the two found themselves sitting next to each other at breakfast but no words were really exchanged. Jungkook was thinking too deeply about what he should say to start the conversation they so much needed. Meanwhile, Taehyung was so hungover and his head was killing him, he barely remembered what happened last night, nor what they did, the last thing he recalled was talking to Jin on the balcony and that's all. However, given Jungkook's silence, he must've done something really stupid but he wasn't courageous enough to ask the latter about it.
"Want more coffee?" Jungeun snapped them out of their thoughts, Taehyung quickly shook his head but Jungkook gave a nod, bringing his mug to the coffee-pot.
"So, how was last night? I heard you guys stayed out a bit late" the older man continued- after refilling Jungkook's mug- as if trying to make the room less quiet.
"We-" Jungkook was about to say something but stopped, he turned towards Taehyung, gave him an indecipherable glare before going on. "We went to Isa's. She felt a bit lonely so she invited her friends to come over"
"I heard her parents recently left for New York" Jungeun gently said.
For a moment, Taehyung almost forgot that Jungeun and Isa's father became friends as well.
Guess everyone are friends with Isa's family!
"They always travel without her" Jungkook sighed with a pained expression. "I feel really bad for her, she's so-"
"At least she's got a nice penthouse, money and everything. She's a spoiled brat" Taehyung butted in. "I mean, my father literally hates my guts and kicked me out of the house. Without you, I'd be homeless. She's old enough to survive the lack of attention. Her life is not that miserable" he added and even if he knew that he just sounded like an asshole it was too late to take it back.
He didn't know when this sudden hatred towards Isa has started. Isa was always a sweetheart to him but these days, he just couldn't stand even hearing her name.
"Not that miserable?" Jungkook gave a dark chuckle and that's when Taehyung knew that he might've fucked up. "She's been living alone for years. It's not really a fucking joy when your parents prefer to travel the world and let bunch of maids raise you, instead!" He sounded passive aggressive as if Taehyung had hit a spot, well, maybe he did.
Honestly, Taehyung didn't know what to say to that and perhaps he should just keep his mouth shut or he'll cause more harm. He didn't understand Jungkook's deal with Isa, maybe he fucked up when he made the bitter comment about Isa's situation but he actually didn't expect Jungkook to get really mad at him for that.
"Okay. I think it's time for you guys to leave" Jungeun interrupted them. "The chauffer's going to drive you to school. I have an important interview so I can't drop you off"
"Good luck with your interview" Jungkook smiled to his father. "But, do think you're going to be okay? The stress and all-"
"I'm good, really. You don't have to come with me, Jungkook" Jungeun interjected as if reading his son's mind. Interviews were always stressing because one can't predict what stupid questions the reporters might ask. In the past, Jungeun had often used Jungkook's presence to reassure him as much but today, he knew that going alone would be ideal.
"Okay. But you can always text me or even call. I don't care if I'm in the middle of the class, I'll leave and come to you" Jungkook told and his father's expression immediately lit up.
"I love you too, son" Jungeun gave him a proper smile maybe after days of keeping up a stoic face.
Taehyung silently cooed at the scene. He really envied what these two have. Well, he could never have the same with his egoistic father.
