The trio advanced to The Blue Mountains, Filis sword still resting on his shoulder, Kili was now in the middle supported by his sister and brother as one arm was resting on Filis shoulder and the other around Esmerelda's shoulder, a few Dwarves spotted the trio. One alerted Thorin who ran out to the balcony of the mountain and saw the blade on Filis sword glinting in the sun light. "It cant be!" He exclaimed.
Thorin ran down to the courtyard and saw them approaching and he tried to hold his tears back as he became overwhelmed. They had made it, after the whole town and their mother thought they were dead, Dwalin and Balin were glad to see their return but the state that the two younger ones were in began to make them worry, they had reached the courtyard of The Mountain and everyone was crowding around them, they made a circle around them. Esmerelda hauled the family sword out of her scabbard and lifted it high into the sky, Fili wrapped his fingers around it and then last but not least Kili wrapped his fingers around the hilt, all three of them lifting it into the sky. Thorin was filled with pride for the trio, they had done it and they worked as a team no matter how hard the task was they had pulled together.
Dis wasn't even awake as she was still asleep in her bed, mourning for her 'lost' children. Thorin had entered the circle and it was only now that he allowed his tears to flood his eyes and dribbled down his cheeks, they had lowered the sword and they noticed him advancing. The trio bowed and Fili rested the sword in the palm of his hands and lifted it towards Thorin who took it and he inspected the blade before lifting it high into the air and the whole town cheered, then he put the blade into the scabbard and then told the trio to stand and they did, Thorin pulling them all in for a hug.
"Well done, I am so proud of you three. I knew you could do it" He said to them. Thorin had to keep them out of the mountain because of the memorial that was there for them, with Thorins keen eyes he could see the area of Esmerelda's hair that the beads once sat in and he could tell it was shorter even though it was braided back, as she had hid it from her brothers well, but she couldn't fool Thorin. "Lets go and see your mother" Thorin said, so he supported Kili on his shoulders, while Fili and Esmerelda walked together, Dis only stirred when she heard footsteps towards her house, she looked out of the window and she couldn't believe her eyes her children had returned to her, she ran out of the door and then ran to them.
"Fili, Kili, Esmerelda" She called.
"Mother" They all yelled and Dis ran to them wrapping them up in a hug. "I thought you were all dead" She cried, Thorin just pinched the bridge of his nose, as he was trying to hide that from them.
"Why would you think that?" Kili asked limping away from his mothers embrace.
"Because firstly we found Esmerelda's beads that a goblin had dropped and were covered in blood, and then your mounts return with out riders" She explained.
"They were spooked and ran" Fili said.
"They had my beads because I was tortured by goblins" Esmerelda added, undoing the braid in her hair to reveal the short chunk of hair on her left side, Fili and Kili gasped.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Fili cried.
"Because I was ashamed and embarrassed" She answered looking at the floor.
"We're your brothers you have nothing to be embarrassed about" Kili said pulling her into a hug.
"We'll sort you out" Dis said hugging her daughter after Kili, and brushing the short strands behind her ear, Dis looked at Thorin over Esmerelda's shoulder and he shook his head, they both knew that they couldn't save the long curls which cascaded down her back as all the other dwarves would know she had been punished or tortured, and to save her from the humiliation and the gossip that would soon spread around The Blue Mountains they would equal her hair out.
"Come on lets get you inside and get you cleaned up" She said, so Thorin carried Kili in, his brother and sister following , Esmerelda had the first bath and she sunk beneath the water as it was warm and it stung her still healing wounds and she placed her broken arm in the water, still wrapped in its bandage to help the healing process, she was almost falling asleep in the bath as she was exhausted until Dis interrupted her thoughts.
"Come on Esmerelda you need to get out as your brothers are waiting" She said.
"Fine" Esmerelda whined and got out, she wrapped a towel around her body and then made her way to her room, where she got changed. Fili was in next and after Kili. That eve they decided to sit down in front of the fire and told Dis and Thorin about their adventures by the time they finished Esmereldas hair length had been reduced dramatically to her shoulders. She hated it, Thorin and Dis tried to convince her it wasn't that bad while her brothers tried to comfort her.
"Its okay, it'll grow back" Fili said resting a hand on her shoulder and smiling at her, and Kili then just hugged his sister.
