Fili and Kili shuffled through the tunnels together trying to get to her, but they were blocked with Goblins but they were a mere obstacle in their way, they killed and slashed everyone till they could see her body laying there, the Goblin King was still looking around for the being who shot his spear from his hand.

Kili and Fili got closer and closer, Fili stayed on watch while Kili gently lifted his sister, but she was limp in his arms but she was too heavy. "Fili" he called softly and so his brother came running over, and helped him, they dragged her between them but she was only coming around, she was too weak to say anything but instead coughed up blood. "So much for her being okay!" Kili said to his brother.

Kili and Fili had to fight their way out, as the Goblin king had called in reinforcements, but it was hard considering they had to balance their sister on their shoulders as well. Goblins after Goblins flooded after them, but they saw an empty passage big enough for them and they climbed down it, but it was a water tunnel connecting to the main river which flowed under the mountain, but Fili slipped over and bought Kili and Esmerelda with him, they all fell with a thud, they were swept away with the water in the tunnel, they were thrown into a fast moving river and came out in a lake, they dragged their sister gently to the shore, they walked back to camp and once there laid her down on her sleeping mat, there was blood everywhere and the boys found it hard to identify what injuries had been inflicted upon her.

Fili noticed the bones sticking out of her leg and some poking out of her hand. "Kili get me some cloth" Fili instructed his brother.

So he did and it was so he could wrap up the worst of her injuries and try to hold her bones in place, but she winced in pain as he tried to move her limbs. "I am sorry" Fili told her.

"Kili give her this" he said handing Kili a cup as it was water and would help with the pain, Esmerelda tugged her hood over her head trying to hide what the Goblins did to her and the fact that she was no longer wearing the Thrain clasp and beads.

She couldn't sleep well because her back was excruciatingly sore, her ribs were shattered and found it hard to breathe. The brothers took it in turns to look after her, as one would take the night shift and the other the day shift.

It was now Filis turn and he needed to change her makeshift bandages, she whimpered as it hurt. "I am sorry" he told her.

He got a bucket of water from the river and he carefully turned her onto her front so he could see to her whip wounds on her back, he rolled up her shirt as they took her coat off and rolled it up as a pillow for her head.

Fili dabbed her back lightly and carefully trying not to cause his sister any more pain or discomfort, she whined a little but she made sure her hood stayed up. "Fili... it hurts" She sobbed.

"It will" he told her trying to be comforting. "How's that leg?" he asked.

"Painful" she answered.

"Are you not warm with they jacket on?" he asked.

"No" she replied quickly.

The sun was beginning to rise, and Fili was getting ready to bed down for the day, Kili was only waking up, he saw his sister was now laying on her side as Fili finished dealing with her back.

Kili walked over to her and saw the state of the bandage as her blood had soaked it in crimson, the only way to stop her losing anymore blood would be to try and cauterise her wounds, so he pulled the bandages off gently and set the fire to heat up, he laid his swords blade in the fire and when it was shining, he rested it on her back she screamed so loud awaking Fili and scaring the horse and ponies.

"Kili what the hell are you doing?" Fili asked.

"Cauterising her wounds" he answered.

"Fili... make it stop!" She cried.

Kili looked at his brother. "But if we don't you will continue to bleed" Fili said to her, and rested his hand on hers reassuring her.

"Take a deep breath and squeeze Filis hand" Kili told his sister.

He then put the sword in the fire, and once it was hot enough he put the sword on her back, she whimpered and tears began to escape her eyes a few hours later and all the cuts were cauterised and the bleeding stopped. Her bones began to heal, and soon they would be on their way, but Esmerelda would need to keep her hood up, as she was too ashamed to let her brothers see.

The downside was she now had a permanent limp, but if she were to ride she would ride with one hand till her left hand healed. With in a few days, she was up and limping around. But the brothers kept a close eye on her, when she had the strength she braided the short part of her hair in with.the rest of her hair so it was hidden, and they were none the wiser.

They carried on their journey, they sang songs as they trotted the barren landscape, the land was quiet except for the whistle of the wind, they were always on guard waiting for an attack, within a few weeks and Esmerelda's hand was healed once again, it soon began to rain and they needed to find somewhere to rest up while the shower passed.

They found a cave and bought the horse and ponies inside, Fili started a fire while Esmerelda carefully sat down and Kili next to her. "Guys set your beds up looks like we're here the whole night. Esmerelda took her hood down as her hair was in a braid so she wasn't too worried.

Within half an hour the fire was burning wildly and they all huddled around it trying to dry off. "Thank you for saving me" she told them.

"You're welcome" Kili said.

"What are brothers for?" Fili added.
