chapter three:
*if song doesn't work on mobile : Dog Is Dead - Teenage Daughter *
I blinked a couple of times, gathering the familiar surroundings of my room. The sun was shining through the thin curtains that hung above my window. I groaned rubbing my eyes before sitting up in bed. I looked over to see that Carter was still asleep and nearly had a mini heart attack.
I got out the bed as quietly as I could, trying my best not to disturb his sleep. I stifled a laugh at his appearance. The guy was massive compared to my small bed, then again it was made for a small person, me.
I left the door open a crack before I made my way downstairs. It was obvious that my brother was still asleep and my parents had yet to return to their messy home. I poured myself some cereal before heading to the backyard. I took a seat on the wooden steps as I looked up at the clear sky.
It was finally the weekend, yet another break from high school. It was my last year and I was dying to get out of this place. I had grown up here and I had great memories of when I was younger. Now though not so much, growing up was hard. I got to see people for who they really are.
However they never got to see me, I never let anyone see the real me. At first it was just to make people think nothing of me, I wasn't one to be noticed in a giant crowd of people, and I was okay with that. Then it turned into an automatic reaction to build up a wall for everyone.
I didn't want to become close with people, I just wanted to get through school and go unnoticed if possible. I took seats at the back of classrooms, sat alone at lunch when I could of course. There was one group of friends who I hadn't fully detached from, close, but not yet. I didn't go out much, though earlier on in my high school years I got plenty of offers.
Over this past year people finally gave up asking if I wanted to tag along. They let me be and I was okay with it. I admit sometimes I felt weird to be the only one in a friend group who stayed locked up in her room every Friday night. Or being at the studio for hours on a weekend while they were at the beach.
I wouldn't say that I was overly different from the other teenagers in my town, but I had my quirks. Some bigger than others, and some being the reason why I chose to shut people out the way I did.
I leaned back against the palms of my hands enjoying the sunlight that was beaming down onto me. My eyes snapped open when I heard a bang inside the house. I grabbed my bowl of now mushy cheerios and dumped it in the sink before bolting up the stairs.
I swung open my door to see Carter standing in the middle of the room, with a hand pressed to his forehead.
"You alright?"
He jumped at the sound of my voice, turning around to face me. His eyes widened as he took in who I was.
"Where the hell am I, and who the hell are you."
I sighed heavily while I rolled my eyes. "I'm Evelyn, you are at my house."
He nodded slowly closing his eyes tightly.
"What the hell did I do last night?"
He asked slowly, before he took a seat on the edge of my bed. I followed suit, grabbing a pillow and placing it in my lap.
"Besides being an annoying asshole? No clue, you came up here drunk thinking this was the bathroom." he groaned into his hands, but little did he know I wasn't done. "Then you insisted on staying here, and no matter what I tried you would not leave. You refused to call me by my full name and then proceeded to fall asleep in my bed."
