chapter eight:

if song doesn't work on mobile : Boy With Blackbird Kite - Fossil Collective

I ignored the sound of knocking on my bedroom door. I was laying upside down on my bed just staring into space. I woke up went to school and now was at home. The day flew by and it was like I couldn't focus on anything.

My mom and dad had gone out for the evening, something about not having a date night in so long, or whatever. I hadn't questioned why they were going out on a Monday night, I mean it's Monday, the day that every single human being dreads.

I heard footstep pad against my carpet, I looked over and nearly fell out of my bed.

"Carter."

He gave me a small wave, as he continued to stand in the doorway of my bedroom.

Frantically I got up, as I continued to stare at his figure. "What are you doing here?"

He shrugged, shoving his hands in the pockets of his jeans.

"Evan let me in and I figured we should talk... or that I just wanted to talk."

I didn't say anything, I couldn't say anything.

After a couple seconds he cleared his throat, and came to sit at my computer desk.

"Look you don't have to talk, but just hear me out okay?"

I peered over at him, "Fine, but I doubt it's going to do you any good." I mumbled.

"Right.." he gave a short nod. "Well I just wanted to know..."

I held up my hands, instantly knowing where his sentence was going.

"I'm fine, don't ask if I am okay... and if that's the only thing you came up here to do, then feel free to leave."

He rolled his eyes. "Eve, if you really think that I am just going to accept your lame lie of an answer than you're crazy. I know there is something up. You avoid me at school, you look like you're lost every time I see you in the halls. In classes I am pretty sure you don't even pay attention to anything that the teacher is saying."

I shook my head, "I'm fine, I'm listening, and it's school of course I am going to look lost. I don't want to be there. Who does?"

"Look Evan said-"

I stood up, " Frankly I don't give two craps what my brother said. Why you may ask? Because he isn't me, he doesn't have my brain so you and him both can just bud out of my life."

He didn't say anything, he just continued to sit in the chair and stare at me. At first I had no problem staring back, but after a minute I became uncomfortable under his gaze. Finally I looked down defeated from our staring match.

"Eve, I just want to know if there is anything I can do to help."

I let out a laugh, "sure if you can bring Sophie back." I had muttered the words underneath my breath, not intending for him to be able to hear... but he did.

"Sophie?"

My head shot up, eyes wide. I had messed up big time.

"Who's Sophie?"

I gave him funny look, "I have no idea what you're taking about, I didn't say Sophie."

"No I'm pretty sure you did, you muttered something about bringing her back, what do you mean?" He leaned forwards in the chair peering at me.

I waved him off, "You're hearing things. I said nothing."

He gave me a hard look. "Fine if you wont tell me, I'm sure Evan will."
