chapter seventeen:

*if song doesn't work on mobile: Prey- The Neighbourhood *

"Ok, your time starts now."

I sucked in a breath looking up at my english teacher who looked so pleased with herself. Of course I hadn't done anything to prepare myself for this. Why would I? I had totally forgotten that we had a test today.

There were a few other people who must've forgotten as well because when she had announced it I wasn't the only one to let out a groan. She had given us all a warning look but said nothing more before handing out the stapled sheets of doom.

I twiddled my pen between my fingers, my eyes skimming over the text. I knew nothing on here.

Absolutely nothing.

I squeezed my eyes shut, taking in a deep breath before releasing it and trying my best to focus on the paper in front of me.

Ten minutes in and still the only thing I had answered wasn't even an answer. I had wrote my name and the date, that's it. Besides that the test was blank, not even a slight doodle here and there. I glanced around the room, I was the only one who seemed to be struggling with this, events people who had groaned in protest with me earlier seemed fine.

I quickly avoided the teachers gaze as she glanced up from her computer.

Soon enough my mind was pulled away from english and focused on yet another memory of Sophie.

"Don't be so worried jeez."

I looked around half expecting a teacher to round the corner and yell at us. Sophie had this great idea that it would be best if we skipped out of the test.

Of course trying to please her I agreed but now standing in a stairwell I couldn't help but feel like I was going to throw up.

My nerves were going haywire and she thought it was the funniest thing in the world to see me squirm.

"Sophie, we really shouldn't just be standing here, wont we get caught?"

I asked after a couple moments of silence, she rolled her eyes at me.

"Like I had said, chill out. You're to good for yourself my god."

I gave her a look and she let out a sigh "Relax! It's not like there is a teacher inspecting all the hallways and stairwells, it's high school not kindergarten."

I rolled my lips into my mouth and took a seat on the dirty, cold floor.

I wasn't really sure what we were supposed to do when you skipped class. I had only ever tried to do it once, to go meet with Sophie but I had chickened out.

She had made fun of me for it, for weeks. At first I never thought she was going to let it go, but then something else happened at school, and she drew all her attention to that instead.

"hello, earth to Eve."

I snapped out my daze and realized Sophie had been talking to me.

"Uh, what sorry?"

She rolled her eyes once again, a gesture that I had become used to.

"I was asking you if we were going to go meet with the boys or not."

I shrugged, instantly feeling the sickening feeling return in my stomach. Every time we would 'hangout' with the boys Sophie would either be involved with alcohol or drugs. At the same time she would try and get me to follow her actions.
