chapter ten:
*if song doesn't work on mobile : Radioactive - Kings of Leon*
I blinked a couple times before turning away from Carter. My hands were balled into fist against my sides. I was no longer sitting peacefully looking over the city, I was now standing / pacing with anger burning in the pit of my stomach.
"You have nerve you know that?" I spat at him, as I turned back to face him.
He was now standing as well and the smile that had been on his face was nowhere to be seen, and the cheery mood was down washed down the drain. In a matter of minutes his simple, yet not so simple words, had brought everything good about today crashing down.
"Evelyn why are you angry?"
I looked at him blankly for a second, why was I mad? Was Carter incredibly stupid?
"You're fucking joking me right?"
He shook his head.
"You knew my best friend, which you lied about. But forget about that, I'm not angry at that. I'm angry because all the while I told you I saw her that night you forgot to mention the fact that you were with her before she decided to end her life."
"That doesn't mean her killing herself is my fault!" he shot back, finally breaking his shell.
"You didn't even try to stop her!" my words were like fire on the tip of my tongue, my voice was ragged and I was yelling at the top of my lungs.
"And you can't tell me you did because if you had.. she's still be here today! She'd still be breathing!"
"Are you fucking kidding me Evelyn? If you're going to fight me on this you better look at your side of the story as well, you were the last one to see her. You had way more power over saving her than I ever did."
I could feel my heart pounding against my ribcage, as if at any moment it would burst right through my bones.
"You can't tell me that I could've stopped her! I didn't have the chance to talk to her, I didn't have the chance to keep her locked in my house for crying out loud!"
"YOU WERE THERE ON THE BRIDGE EVE!"
"YOU WERE WITH HER ALL DAY BEFORE CARTER YOU COULD'VE DONE SOMETHING. ANYTHING! BUT YOU DIDN'T!!"
He sighed angrily as he ran a hand through his hair. His face was red, as was mine and both of us were heaving air in and out of our lungs. Anger was pent up in both of us and it was just waiting, itching to be let out.
This just happened to be the perfect match to light the fuse deep inside.
"Eve, she didn't hint, or tell me anything about what she was planning to do. She left my house telling me she had to go pick up her sister from some birthday party-"
My eyes nearly budged out of my head.
"She doesn't even have a sister." I ground out through clenched teeth. It was like all the blood beneath my skin was boiling.
"Carter. Sophie was an only child."
His expression fell, as he realized that she had totally screwed him over with a simple lie.
"I - I had no idea."
I nodded letting out a sick laugh, " Really? cause I had no idea."
He glared at me, his eyes seemed as if they were trying to cut their way through me.
"I didn't know her like you okay? We didn't share secrets as we gossiped about cute boys and gave each other make overs so sue me if I didn't know everything about her. I never claimed to anyways."
