-AVALONA, PRESENT DAY-

My eyes followed him as he walked around the table to take the seat across from me. "You should have known I'd find you eventually, even with Vartan helping you."

If he knows that Vartan helped me does that mean he knows we slept together? My fingers clutched the mug as I swallowed hard. "Did you hurt him for helping me?"

He chuckled and shook his head. "Of course not Darling. If he was anyone else I would  have but I know what he means to you. Why did you leave me?"

I chewed on my bottom lip and he raised an eyebrow as he gently took my drink sipping it. "I followed you into the basement one night and saw you and your men beat Vito to death... The night before I overheard you on the phone in your office when you thought I was asleep, so I know he did something to betray the family."

He pursed his lips together as he gazed at me with his dual-colored eyes. "Why didn't you come talk to me?"

"Because... What I heard and saw scared me..."

"I'm sorry that you saw it, but what you heard me talking about was only half of the story. If you'd come to me, I would have told you the truth."

"Why did you kill Vito?"

He reached into the inner pocket of his jacket and held out an envelope to me. Slowly I took it and pulled out the papers. "These are the police reports about my parents' murder, why do you have them?"

He sat the mug down and leaned back in the chair, his eyes scanning around the empty café. "The first night we spent together I woke up to you screaming and crying in your sleep, but you wouldn't tell me why, so I had my people do some digging. When you told me your parents were dead, I never thought about the possibility of them being murdered."

"What does it have to do with Vito?"

"You never saw their killer's face did you?"

My eyes went to him and I shook my head. "He had a mask on and when he broke in my dad made me hide in a cabinet of the entertainment center. I-I peeked out just as the man put three bullets into each of my parents."

"The bullets were from a Baretta M9, the type of gun men in my circle carry. Something told me to check up on my own men, back then Vito was talking to someone who paid him close to a hundred thousand dollars. Your father was a counselor at the Brearly School in the city and he reported the abuse of some big wig CEO's daughter."

"Sondra Blackburn... She was in my class in the fourth grade and I told dad when I saw the bruises on her arms..."

"When word got back to him that you were still in the city he told Vito to finish the job and Vito outsourced to the guy who broke into your apartment. Before he could make another move I killed Vito."

"Blackburn could just hire someone else, someone outside of your organization."

"Ragazza Dolce, my brother and I won't let that happen."

"Brother?" I asked raising an eyebrow. "You said you were an only child."

He motioned with his head for me to look over my shoulder. As my gaze went to the door Vartan was entering. "Hey Kid," he greeted in his gruff tone.

"But your last name is Avagyan and I thought the police commissioner was your only brother," I commented as he lowered his immense size into one of the other chairs around the table.

"Avagyan is my mother's name. Arik and I are the bastard children of Rossi Tomasino and Silvano's half-brothers."

I looked between them trying to see similarities, but you wouldn't think they were cousins. "W-why didn't either of you tell me?"

"Silvano and I have never been close, the only reason we exchanged any words this last year was because of you. We both care for you Princess and I think that caused even more animosity between us until we realized we have a common enemy in Crawford Blackburn."

My eyes went to Silvano. "So you know that we..." I trailed off and he chuckled.

"Like I said if he was anyone else I would have destroyed him."

"We came to the conclusion that one of us can't give you the level of protection or love that you need and deserve, so if you'll have us we are all yours."

Tears threatened to fall as I looked between them again. "Thank you both."
