-SILVANO-

'God help whoever is the reason I have to leave Ava,' I growled to myself. When I was in my car I grabbed a plain black tee shirt from the small section behind the seats and pulled it on then started the engine. My eyes went to the second floor that I knew was her room and let out a sigh if I had it may way we would have stayed in her bed all day so I could discover every little thing that her body liked.

Once I made it to the custom ranch style house I'd gotten for a steal because the millionaire who'd had it built ran into unforeseen financial issues, I parked in the four-car garage before heading inside the house. "Hey boss," one of my soldiers, Enzo, greeted me coming out of the kitchen carrying a manilla folder.

"This couldn't wait until I got back?" I grumbled snatching the folder out of his hands as I walked around him to get to my office.

"When this came in I thought you'd want to see it right away," he replied following after me. I sat in my large leather desk chair and opened the file to see police reports. "Her parents were executed," I muttered flipping through the coroner's reports and crime scene photos. "They were shot with a Barretta, I'm guessing there were no prints."

I glanced up at him and he shook his head. "Some residue from leather gloves, but they're generic. You can buy them anywhere."

I let out a breath closing the folder. "None of this seems like it couldn't have waited until I got back."

He crossed his arms over his chest leaning on the wall beside the door. "We both know that the only people that use that brand of gun are the people who run in our circles."

"The Silvers don't seem like the type who'd be on our radar."

"Look at the paper at the end."

Again, I flipped to the very end to find another report that wasn't part of the murder. "This is a report of child abuse."

"Filed with the NYPD by Garrett Silvers, he was a counselor at a posh school near Little Italy, he was your girl's father."

"So, the police thought the murders and the abuse allegations were connected."

"They could never prove it. Avalona told the officers the killer wore a mask and she couldn't identify him, so the case went cold."

"Thanks Enzo."

"Sure thing boss."

He left the office, and I sat back in my chair rubbing my hand over my mouth. When she told me that her parents were dead I never imagined they'd been killed like this; it's no wonder she has night terrors. When she woke me up last night sobbing in her sleep I gently woke her and tried to coax her into telling me what was plaguing her dreams, but she wouldn't say a word so I reached out to Enzo to do some digging so that I could have answers. I pulled my phone out of my jeans and brought up her number to text her. My thumbs hovered over the screen for a moment before typing out my text: miss me yet?

After a few moments a message came through: maybe in your dreams followed by a winking emoji. I smiled at this, after just one night with her I'd burn the world just to see her smile.

-AVALONA-

Monday came and went in a rush like it always does. With each text received and sent I could feel myself falling for him already which I kick myself for. As I was getting ready for work Tuesday afternoon my phone buzzed on my dresser with an incoming text from Silvano. Do you have any plans on Sunday?

I pulled on my tee shirt before picking it up to reply. Just getting a few groceries. Why?

I have a charity event to go to at Broadway and was hoping that you would be my date

I stared at my phone screen for a moment before replying. I don't have anything to wear to Broadway

I'll drop something off at four

I can't ask you to do that

Sweet One you're not asking, I'm offering

I chewed on my lip. Okay, I'd be happy to accompany you. I sat my phone back down continuing to get ready.

There's no reason to bore you with the details of the happenings of the bar leading up to Sunday. While I was doing my shopping, I constantly felt like someone was watching me but every time I looked over my shoulder there was no one. I'd gone out to run errands later than normal, so it was getting close to four when I turned down the alley at the back of the club and found a black Mercedes SUV with tinted windows waiting there. My steps slowed as I made my way toward it reaching for my cellphone in case I needed to call someone. One of the back doors opened and I let out a breath when Silvano climbed out.

"You okay?" he asked when I stopped in front of him.

"Yeah, uhm, I'm fine."

He raised a dark eyebrow as he looked down at me. "You look a little on edge."

I chewed on my lip and looked over my shoulder before sighing. "While I was out running my errands I felt like I was being followed."

He looked at me for a moment. "Let's go get you a bag of whatever you'll need to get ready for tonight and you can get ready that my apartment in Manhattan."

"Silvano you-"

"I know that I don't have but if you are being followed I'd feel better if you were with me."

Again I chewed on my lip then nodded. "All right," I sighed, and we headed inside.

"Hold on," he said and caught my arm before I could make it up to the landing; I followed his gaze to see my front door was slightly open. "Stay here."

He let go of my arm and I watched him step onto the landing then slowly pushed open the door before going inside. I shifted my grip on my grocery bags as I stood on the stairs waiting for him to come back. "Doesn't look like anything was taken or messed with. Get an overnight bag packed, you're staying at my place tonight. While you're doing that I'm going to call the police commissioner to file a report."

"The police commissioner? Isn't a break-in below his pay grade?"

"He's a personal friend."

I let out a breath and stepped around him to go inside. As I put groceries away I glanced toward the door to see him on the landing with his phone to his ear. When I was finished in the kitchen I went to my bedroom to pack up a few outfits, a set of pajamas and underwear then went to grab my small bag of toiletries. That bag was tossed into my duffel, and I was grabbing my phone charger when Silvano came in. "Got everything you need Sweet One?" he asked as I was zipping up my bag and I nodded. "I'm going to have one of my people keep an eye on your apartment tonight and tomorrow someone will be here to install a security system."

"I can't afford a system besides Vartan has someone patrolling twenty-four seven."

"I'm paying for it and as for the patrol they are clearly not doing their jobs like they're supposed to."

I stared at him for a moment. "Silvano, why are you doing all of this for me?"

He let out a breath and sat his phone on top of my dresser then came over to me, placing a hand on my cheek. "La mia dolce ragazza, I would burn the world just to see your beautiful smile."

My face twitched with a smile as a blush warmed my cheeks. "So, what does that mean?"

He smiled at me. "My sweet girl," he whispered then slid his hand to the back of my neck and pulled me into him pressing his lips to mine. "Let's get out of here," he whispered when he pulled away.
