Silvano-
She looked so beautiful sleeping peacefully with a small cum-drunk smile on her face. I placed a light kiss on her forehead before going through the open French doors to join my brothers on the terrace. Vartan popped the top of a beer and offered it to me as I took a seat with him and Arik around the fire put. "Thanks," I sighed and accepted the drink as I lowered into one of the chairs. "I'm going into town to pick up things for dinner tomorrow night."
"Trying to make us look bad?" Arik asked and Vartan let out a low chuckle lighting a cigarette.
"Last time I checked he's the only one of us that can cook," the older twin commented earning a glance from the younger. "You and I will keep her busy while he gets everything ready for her birthday dinner."
"Why do we need to keep her busy?"
"She doesn't know that we're celebrating her birthday," I commented and Arik gave me a confused look. "Ava doesn't like us doting on her. You haven't seen it but if she liked something she won't say that she does because she knows one of us will buy it for her. She is so independent and hard-headed. If you go out of your way to spoil her she will accept it."
Arik glanced toward the bedroom doors taking a sip from the bottle in front of him. "She's been through so much," he mused and Vartan and I nodded in agreement.
-Vartan-
My eyes went to Avalona as she sat on a beach towel just out of the reach of the tide with a sketch book in her lap and a set of pencils setting by her hip. Her hair hung down her back in a messy braid catching rays from the sun, a few strands framing her face and pale blue toes were buried in the warm sand. From the corner of my eye I saw Arik set in the beach chair beside me after hanging up his cellphone. "Everything okay?" I asked looking at him.
"The Blue Vipers Crawford escaped with were arrested in Far Rock Away."
My brow furrowed at this new information. "What were they doing in Queens?"
My brother shrugged and watched Ava as she sketched. "So far they're claiming not to know anything about Crawford."
My gaze joined his. "We both know that money buys silence."
"If only they knew what they were involving themselves in by helping him."
"Ignorance is bliss Little Brother."
He was far from wrong; if everyone knew what her 'scary dog privileges' looked like they would keep their distance. All three of us would do everything in our power to keep her safe and we are more than capable of making sure no one ever finds out. "Did you tell Silvano?"
"Not yet, I'm waiting until he gets back from town."
"Did you check into financials?" I asked and saw Arik nod.
"If money has changed hands it's been done with cash or in such a way that my guys can't find it."
"Maybe it would have been easier if Silvano's men had found them instead of yours," I remarked and he glanced at me.
"You aren't wrong. They would have had an easier time making them talk."
I nodded in agreement and watched Ava stretch her arms above her head. "Oh yeah, the Mayor's Ball is the weekend after we get back," he commented. "You are all invited."
"Oh joy," I grumbled rolling my eyes. Slowly I rose from my seat and started making my way down the beach when she pulled off her cover-up. Her musical giggle filled my ears when I scooped her up into my arms making a bee-line for the water.
