(((SHADEKIT'S POV)))

I looked around from where I was sitting beside Moonkit.

Everything seemed peaceful.

Bristlefrost, Lionblaze, Thriftear, and Rosepetal -Bristlefrost had offered to go on a few hunting patrols every once in a while as Mistkit was getting older now and was eating fresh-kill now- had returned from a successful looking hunting patrol with mice and if I was seeing right, a plump, juicy rabbit. Squirrelflight and Bramblestar were laying beneath the Highrock, purring, and Icepool was taking a mouse to the medicine den for Flowerkit.

Flowerkit.

I turned back to the medicine den.

Jayfeather and Alderheart hadn't been allowing anyone but Icepool occasionally to visit Flowerkit, saying she needed rest, although everyone knew Flowerkit was giving Jayfeather a hard time- I wasn't surprised, really. Flowerkit had always said Jayfeather was too cold, although I viewed him as more focused on his work.

My unbiased opinion often wavered though when Jayfeather insulted me for bumping into him, or when I heard him scold Flowerkit- she'd been attacked by a fox, for StarClan's sake!

At least Alderheart seemed to treat her nicer.

I watched Squirrelflight try to get to her paws but Bramblestar flicked his tail and spoke, so I moved closer to hear them.

"...with me." Bramblestar finished.

"A clan doesn't run itself," Squirrelflight mewed back, sounding more amused and affectionate than stern. "I want to check on the fresh-kill pile to make sure the patrols aren't over-hunting."

"You can check on the pile from here, and Sparkpelt's patrol has only gone out recently. Wait till she comes back." Bramblestar objected.

Squirrelflight sighed slightly but lay back down next to him.

I turned my head to watch Bristlefrost and Rosepetal putting their prey on the fresh-kill pile. They exchanged conversation a bit, with Bristlefrost looking slightly embarrassed at one point, before they both headed over to Bramblestar and Squirrelflight.

I scooted over slightly to listen, grateful for once at my small size- they probably wouldn't notice a tiny kit like me sitting nearby, so I swiveled my ears in their direction to hear.

Squirrelflight sat up and nodded at them. "Your hunt went well," Squirrelflight blinked at them, "But make sure you don't hunt too much."

Bramblestar gazed past Rosepetal and fixed his stare on Bristlefrost. Despite her having given birth to Mistkit four moons ago, he'd given her the duties of organizing patrols so that he could spend more time with Squirrelflight. Well, not exactly, but I had assumed he'd done it for that reason.

Moonkit nudged me. "Do you think this is wrong, listening in on their conversations?"

I shook my head lightly. "No. Nobody told us not to do it."

"Nobody told us to do it either," Moonkit pointed out.

"Shh! They're talking again!" I whispered.

Moonkit rolled her eyes and got to her paws. "I for one am not going to get in trouble for eavesdropping, thanks very much." She strolled off and started playing with a leaf.

I sighed, then returned my attention to what was going on.

"Are you enjoying organizing the patrols?" Bramblestar asked Bristlefrost.
