(((FLOWERKIT'S POV)))
I squeezed between the stiff nursery walls and softly padded towards the camp exit.
Three more fox-tail lengths.
Two more.
"Flowerkit? What are you doing?"
Icepool blinked her ice blue eyes from the darkness of the nursery.
"I needed to make dirt," I lied.
"You're going the wrong way." Icepool narrowed her eyes.
"Sorry. I couldn't see where I was going." I shifted on my paws.
Menace is waiting for me!
Icepool blinked expectantly, as if she was waiting for something. When I didn't say anything, she added, "You saw Bramblestar's....twitching, yesterday, right?"
Why did she sound so hopeful?
"...Maybe," I started to wonder if I was in trouble. "Why?"
"Did anything strange happen?" Icepool urged.
I let the silence drag on for a second before changing the subject. "Does Bramblestar have amber eyes?"
Icepool frowned. "...Yes. Bramblestar's eyes are amber, like yours and Moonkit's."
"Really?"
So I had been seeing things.
"Were they blue? When you saw him twitching, were his eyes blue?"
I knew I needed to hurry up or else Menace would think I wasn't coming.
"Well, yes, they were blue, but that's not important, is it?" I mewed hurriedly.
Icepool stared at me for a few seconds, then disappeared back into the nursery.
What?
I slid across the smooth forest floor and opened my mouth to find where Menace was waiting.
Nothing.
Had he thought I wasn't coming and left? I hadn't been that long, had I?
"Menace?" I whispered, and almost took a step forward.
Don't go!
But I have to, I tried to convince myself, Menace is waiting for me. He's probably just late, that's all.
Two shrieks split the air.
Two shrieks I would know anywhere.
Menace isn't alone!
He's with a fox!
