"Give it to me, red– I-I mean, could you pass me the book, please, Miss Lily?" Sirius Black asked politely, somewhat tense from his parents' warning look at his obvious lack of manners during his stay on the school grounds.
They couldn't blame him! Being a pureblood was too tedious for him, he was a free soul and hated being bound by rules. That was why he had delegated his title as heir to Regulus, besides the fact that he honestly thought his younger brother was the best suited for the title.
"With pleasure, sir Black," Lily replied, both dumbfounded and amused, as she handed him the book, which was almost snatched from her hands at his impatience.
"Chapter seventeen: The Forbidden Forest," he read quickly, making his mother sigh for not being more discreet and patient.
The Potter heir, on the other hand, chuckled under his breath, commenting amusedly:
"I thought our friend here couldn't read."
"I beg your pardon? My boyfriend here can do it and does it very well," Remus defended with a grin as he watched Sirius nod proudly as he stuck out his tongue childishly and a moment later accepted the light caress the werewolf had decided to give him on the cheek.
"Yeah, I don't need to see this display of affection between my brother and his boyfriend," Regulus mumbled, feigning a retch.
"Wait until you fall in love."
"In a thousand years," he replied, making Adhara snort under her breath.
"Yeah, sure. Paedophile."
Things could not have turned out worse.
Filch took them to Professor McGonagall's office on the first floor, where they sat waiting, not saying a word. Hermione was trembling.
Excuses, apologies and crazy stories crossed Harry's mind, each one weaker and worse than the next. He couldn't imagine how they were going to get out of trouble this time. They were trapped. How could they have been so stupid as to forget the cloak? There was no reason in the world for Professor McGonagall to accept that they had been wandering through the night or that they were sleepwalkers, not to mention that they had been found in the highest tower of Astronomy, which was off-limits except for classes. Add to all that Norbert and the invisible cloak, they could start packing their bags.
Harry thought things couldn't get any worse? He was wrong. When Professor McGonagall appeared, she was carrying Neville.
"Harry!" Neville called worried. "I was trying to find you to warn you, I heard Burke say he was going to catch you, he said you had a drag..."
Many grimaced at the future Longbottom heir's nice show of loyalty, as it was clear that it wasn't going to do much good this time, however well-intentioned.
