Kayden's POV
I let out a heavy sigh, tossing my phone onto the couch before taking a sip of whiskey, frustration mounting as Hazel ignored my call once again.
No matter how hard I tried to mend things, Hazel remained as stubborn as ever. Each day, I sent her bouquets of her favorite flowers—three times a day, morning, afternoon, and evening.
Despite my efforts to see her, I faced constant obstacles. Security guards barred my access to her house and workplace. I even waited outside her office, hoping to catch her, but she seemed to have anticipated my presence and slipped away through the back exit to avoid me.
I bombarded her with messages, calls, and gifts, hoping to mend the rift between us, but all my efforts fell flat. She remained elusive, ignoring my attempts at reconciliation ever since she learned the truth.
As the elevator doors parted, Jayden strolled into the living room, his hand casually tucked in his pocket, a sheepish grin playing on his lips.
"Drinking already? Bit early, isn't it?" he quipped, arching an eyebrow at the sight of the whiskey glass in my hand.
"No, perfect timing for me," I responded with a heavy sigh. "Care for a drink?" I offered, downing the rest of my whiskey before rising to my feet.
"Sure, I'll join you," he replied with a grin. I nodded and headed to pour us both another round.
Returning with two fresh glasses of whiskey, I handed one to him. "Thanks," he said, offering a warm smile as he accepted the drink.
I nodded, settling back onto the couch. Taking a sip of my whiskey, I watched my twin enjoying his drink, a contented look on his face.
"Spill it," I urged with a curious grin. He arched an eyebrow, shooting me a questioning glance. "I want to know the reason behind that sheepish grin," I pressed, sharing a knowing look.
He nibbled on his lower lip, excitement lighting up his eyes. Intrigued, I leaned in, eager for the revelation.
"I'm going to be a dad," Jayden announced, his voice brimming with joy.
"What?" My eyes widened in shock. "Please don't tell me Virginia's playing tricks on you again," I responded incredulously.
"No, it's been ages since I last saw her," my twin replied, shaking his head. "Clara's pregnant. Today, I got to see my baby for the first time, Kade. I can't even put into words how incredible it felt. It was like magic," he gushed with excitement.
"Oh my goodness! Congratulations, Jay," I exclaimed, jumping to my feet to embrace him, giving his back a hearty pat.
Excitement surged through my veins at the thought of becoming an uncle. It was a profound moment, witnessing my twin brother stepping into fatherhood. I eagerly looked forward to playing with my future niece or nephew.
"Thanks, Kade. I'm over the moon," Jayden beamed, returning the hug with equal enthusiasm.
Settling onto the couch, he continued, "I'm relieved I intervened before losing them both."
"Why? Was she considering aborting the baby?" I inquired, eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
"No, that wasn't it. She was planning to move to London without a word to me. Clara made it clear she didn't want me to feel obligated to stay with her just because of the baby. She knew I'd step up and take responsibility, even insist on marriage," Jayden explained, his voice heavy with a sigh.
"She's right. You may not love her, but I'm glad you're stepping up to be a father. Co-parenting's tough, but I know you'll handle it," I remarked, offering a sympathetic glance as I gently squeezed his knee.
