The two of them held each other for quite a while, Yeosang had turned into a little boy who needed his mommy right before my eyes. It was a heartwarming sight to see them sitting together on the couch and her stroking his head and whispering that everything was okay and how much she loved him. I almost started crying myself, but I was distracted by his father, who probably wanted to get to know me too and asked me how our weekend on Jeju had been. He took out two glasses and held out the soju bottle for me to pour us a drink.
"You'll need it in a minute, she's a tough cookie when it comes to her kids," he said with an amused grin and pointed his head towards his wife. I followed his gaze and suddenly got a queasy feeling. Surely this small, petite woman couldn't spank me? She looked over at us and noticed our staring.
"Yah, Pabo... stop blaspheming, or do you want to die?" she scolded her husband and he immediately bowed his head in surrender.
"No, honey... I'm sorry." he apologized as if on command and yet I could see him laughing. Okay, so I guess they weren't quite that serious. Nevertheless, I had a lot of respect for the woman. We quickly finished our glasses and then my father-in-law looked at me seriously.
"Well, I've heard that your marriage isn't real and that you're only doing it for publicity... of course that's not what you want for your child, but I've seen the way you look at Yeosang... I look at that crazy woman in the back the same way. So your relationship isn't fake anymore, is it?" he asked with a slight smile and I nodded.
"For me, this marriage was never fake..." I admitted and his smile widened.
"As long as you treat him well and you're happy, it's all good for me. Of course, you'll have to convince the dragon yourself, I can't help you with that." he said with a grin and laughed at my startled face.
Well, at least I now knew which side Yeosang got from which parent... he got his sense of humor from his father and the ability to roast everything and everyone from his mother... But I didn't know from whom he got his sometimes shy nature, because neither of his parents was like that...
When Yeosang had calmed down again and left his mother to go to his father, his mother took me by the hand and pulled me into the kitchen with her, where she closed the door and looked at me critically.
"Well, I understand that he has to go along with it to raise his profile, but you? Your band is already at the top, what's in it for you? No matter what the manager said, nothing could have happened to you. They would never dare to kick Min Yoongi out of BTS. Explain it to me," she asked me.
"I didn't care what the managers wanted from the start... I love Yeosang and have for a long time. I know the circumstances of how we got married were far from ideal, but I'm glad it turned out the way it did. I wouldn't have wanted to marry anyone else. And now it's a real marriage," I told her and waited anxiously for her reaction. Her gaze remained stern and I hoped I wasn't completely screwing things up.
"Good, then surely you don't mind marrying Yeosang again? This time properly, sober and with the whole family," she suggested and I immediately had to smile, because that was indeed what I had planned.
"Of course not, I couldn't imagine anything better," I answered her truthfully.
Her stern look turned into a warm smile before she stood up and hugged me.
"Welcome to the family."
