Jin was nervous. He had no idea how his father would react to him taking Kook. But it had to happen; Kook needed to escape that environment. He'd be able to present and live in safety and love. They took the bus there since neither one of them had a car. The Kims would probably give him one if he asked. But he didn't want to abuse their kindness more than he already had.
Because he knew that if he even whispered about needing a car, they would have a car at his school in 4 hours or less. They were those people even more if they found out he came to the hospital to help Tae. He felt a hand on his shoulder, squeezing lightly. He sighed, "I'm fine; I just hate seeing him."
"I know that I'm not much by most people's definition of an Alpha. But I'm here; I can fake it, you know that. I won't let him do anything to either of you, and if we need to, we'll call Yoonji, and she'll hand him his ass in 15 seconds flat."
That got Jin laughing his ridiculous windshield wiper laugh. It was so loud and out of pocket, but it made Yoongi smile; at least he wasn't stressing anymore, he thought to himself. They made their way to the house side by side.
Do I knock and wait for someone to answer, or do I walk in? I don't live there anymore, and it hasn't been my home for a very long time. Jin's inner monologue was going insane. But as soon as they turned the corner, he realized that his fretting was for nothing because Kookie was waiting on them. He was sitting on the front porch, elbows on his knees and his little fists pushing his cheeks up so he looked like a chipmunk. Jin mused with a big smile on his face, thinking he was by far the most adorable pup in the world.
"Jinnie," Kook screamed as he jumped up and ran towards his brother. The elder was almost knocked back on his ass by the sudden weight thrown onto him. Thankfully, Yoongi steadied him while he hugged the life out of his little brother. "I missed you so much," the pup sobbed with his head shoved into Jin's neck.
"I missed you too, baby, so so much. Did you pack your bag already?"
Kook nodded his head quickly as he bounced a bit in Jin's arms. "I did as soon as we got off the phone last night. I'm so excited. Do you really think he'll let me come stay for a bit?"
"Of course, he will. Fall break is in two days for me, and you already started. He has no reason to say no, pup." He had no reason to say no because this would give him a week of no Jungkook to worry about, and both Yoongi and Jin knew just how selfish that Beta was.
The pup grabbed one of each of the elders' hands and dragged them inside. He was wasting no time at all, and it made both of them smile. "What are you doing here?"
Jin sighed before he turned to look at the man who was supposed to love him unconditionally. Instead, he hated him because he wasn't an Alpha, something that the man wasn't even himself. "I came to get Jungkookie and take him to stay with me for fall break."
"And you didn't think to ask me first? What if I had plans for us?" Poor Kook was behind him, practically shaking in fear. He reached behind himself as best as he could to hug his little brother. It was the only thing he could do at the moment; if he did anything else, their father might snap. And Jin would never risk Kook getting hurt.
"Do you have plans?" It was a challenge, one that the Beta would hate coming from an Omega since Omegas are lesser in his eyes. He watched the man squirm a bit, his eyes flashing between anger and annoyance.
Yoongi stepped up, standing as tall as he could, but he was still shorter than Jin. "We thought we'd give you a break since you've had him for months all by yourself. Kook told us how you got a new girlfriend, and we thought that you might want to stay with her and enjoy a little break. Were we wrong?"
Oh, Yoongi was good. There's no way he'll not jump on that opportunity. A week with nothing to do but spend time with his girlfriend. It's not like the piece of shit works much. The old Beta started nodding his head and mumbling about how that sounds great. It's so hard raising a pup on his own. Jin wanted to smack the man. He's been raising Kook since the day he was brought home from the hospital.
Their mother died during the birth, and their father didn't exactly love her. They were mated, and that takes a toll on you. He was too far gone with his wolf's grief to take care of a baby. So little four-year-old Jin stepped up to take care of the tiny thing that needed and demanded so much attention.
"Fine, you can take him. The brat has been crying about you every day since you left anyway."
Jin perked up a bit. This is his chance. "I actually wanted to talk to you about that."
He turned to look at Yoongi, and the younger kneeled down to look at Kook, "Hey pup, why don't we go to your room and make sure you didn't forget anything?"
Once they were gone, Jin took a deep breath, "I was talking to Yoongi about this. Why don't we let Kook come live with us? We have a three-bedroom place, so he'd have his own room. There's a great school right down the road from our school, and there's a youth center on campus that he could go to after his class is out if I'm still in class. That way, you could spend more time with your girlfriend, and hey, if things are really serious, you could even move in and get rid of this place. It would save you so much money."
The Omega was practically sucking in his breaths while trying his hardest not to gasp. Everything rides on this. The old Beta sat down; it looked like he was really thinking about it. "If he's not living here, then I lose out on his state benefits. It was hard enough when I lost yours; I can't lose his too."
Of course, that's what this was about, not the betterment of the pup. "No one has to know he lives with me. He can still be registered as your pup. He'll stay with me. I don't need the money. My scholarship pays for everything. I just need you to sign these papers, and we can go."
Their father raised his eyebrow up in annoyance, "what papers?"
"Guardianship papers so I can enroll him into school. You are still his legal parent, but this states that I can, in essence, make choices for his well-being. You can still get his benefits this way, but I can take him to the Doctor and sign his school papers, etc."
Please say yes, please say yes. Do something good for once in your horrible life, Jin chanted in his head over and over. It was so quiet you could literally hear a pin drop. Not even Yoongi's deep voice could be heard from the other room.
"Fine, as long as he stays my son, I don't really care what you do with him. Plus, if he presented as an Omega, I don't want him anyway. One son was enough of a disappointment for me. I don't want another one to remind me just how much of a failure your mother was."
Yes, it was on the birthing parent to decide what the sub-gender is, but it's not like they can pick and choose just like the other parent can't pick boy or girl. You get what you get.
