Aprox a week later :)
~~~Since my conversation with Queen Frigga, I've been trying to keep myself occupied with anything but my research on frost giants. That was kind of easy until Bruce came walking up to me.
"Paige!" He called, catching my attention in an instant.
I grinned widely, "Heya Brucie! I've been questioning castle staff but it's a bit hard to get their honest answers when I can't even ask straight questions."
"Yes, well... I found something of interest." Banner lifted a book towards me and flipped it open to a page with a long list upon it. "For some reason they keep a list of every Asgardian birth. I assume it's something to do with keeping a legacy."
I scanned through the list, "Okay?" I gestured for him to continue.
He pointed towards the listing of Thors birth. Alongside it was the day Frigga was announced pregnant and a few other details that I thought was too much for simple notes. His finger then pointed to the name above Thor.
"Some random Asgardian." The doctor stated.
"Yeah but Thor is first born." I explained.
Bruce moved the scroll upwards, showing the rest of it to me, "Do you see Loki there?"
I grabbed the scroll, rushing to look over the whole thing - Lokis name couldn't be found. Not a single indication, note or detail was written to point towards the younger of Odins sons. Loki was no where to be seen. Dr Banner continued, "Maybe they stopped at Thor though? Perhaps-""Brucie, this has been a tradition for centuries, eons even. Odin seems a man of tradition- he wouldn't just break it."
"We know Loki was adopted though. That might be all it is." Banner was trying to come up with any excuse and so was I but the possibilities were running out quickly.
"If he was of Asgard... wouldn't they still have those records?"
Banner gulped before nodding, "Yes."
I couldn't stop as the edges of my lips turned upwards, "Oh my dear Dr Banner! You just confirmed my suspicions! Or at least... I think... Queen Frigga wanted me to wait for Loki to tell me himself so I'm not going to... convince myself it's true until then and-"
"Paige, calm down." Bruce took a gentle hold of my arm and I stopped talking, only just realising the shortness of breath I had developed from the rapid speed I was speaking.
"Right, sorry." I took a deep breath before continuing, "I think we have one answer to the mass amount of question still lingering."
"Are you going to tell me?" Bruce asked, trying not to push me but also making it very obvious he wanted to know.
"No."
"What? - Why?"
"I just told you that Frigga told me to wait for Loki!" I repeated, laughing a bit.
Banner looked at me as though I was going insane, "We came here to understand Loki. I didn't realise that included waiting decades for him to admit the truth to us."
I shrugged, "Fair point..." I thought for a second, "There are still some gaps, we need to find answers to how his childhood was."
"For the past two weeks we've been stuck here, I've read nearly every book on Asgard, the Nine Realms, Asgardian royalty, wars - quite literally everything that has any link to God of Mischief. And the books I haven't read, you did." Bruce glanced through a nearby doorway, "That library doesn't hold the answers we need."
I nodded in agreance. "You told me to ask people so... let's ask people."
"You mean Odin?" He questioned.
"Yes... and everyone else."
~~~
"I will kill him for betraying Thor." Sif said before walking away.
"He betrayed Prince Thor! I could kill him for it." Fandral shouted.
"Thor was always the true King. Now, I will not answer questions from a Midguardian." Odin sneered from on top of his throne.
"Laufey warned of a traitor in the house of Odin. I will kill that monster for betraying us." Hogun snarled.
"It was an act of treason. Many want to kill Prince Loki." Heimdall explained, refusing to look at us.
~~~
"I warned him." Volstagg snapped. "I said, if he even THOUGHT about betraying Thor..." I watched as his face screwed up and bit his tongue.
"You'd kill him?" Bruce asked to which Volstagg nodded with a light grunt.
"Evidently there is a line." I sighed deeply, slouching back in the chair.
We had now questioned the entire castle about Loki. Nobody gave honest answers only death threats which were never acted upon - so thankfully, we weren't solving a murder. (Way too many suspects!)
Dr Banner glanced over me before pushing himself to his feet and walking out the room.
"Thank you for your time." I smiled at Volstagg, watching him take a bite of the sandwich which stayed in his hand the entire time.
I rushed outside, finding Banner in an instant. He said, "Paige, what do we do now? We go home tomorrow and have so many questions left unanswered!"
It's been 2 weeks 3 days since we first arrived in Asgard and Thor had been called back to Earth, therefore meaning Bruce and I had to go along as well.
"Come on, Brucie... At least we answered one question - nobody cares for Loki in this place or at least he's never put first." I leant up against the wall, trying to keep some sort of hope but it was mostly gone by now.
"Did I hear my brothers name?" Thors voice bellowed down the corridor. Over the past couple of weeks, I've recognised the amount of time I have been spending with Thor. Every minute I didn't spend questioning someone, I was spending time with the God of Thunder and his loud voice was beginning to feel like nails on a chalk board.
I walked away, going to my chambers to pack for the next day. Sure I didn't get all the answers I wanted but it was very obvious who the favourite child was and safe to assume the inequality sent Loki to rebel. I was ready to go back home...
