Ben's POV

I can't lie, I don't like the idea of Alexa going to meet with Alex. He's put his hands on her and even if he was drunk most of the time, what's stopping him from doing it again?

I can tell she's at least a little scared of him. But if I know Alexa as well as I think I do, she's not going to admit it or let anyone see it. She's always been hard headed and stubborn.

2 hours have went by since she texted him and he told her to meet him at the lake by us at 1.

So here we are, in the car on the way there. Alexa didn't put up much of a fight when I told her that I was going with her and i'm grateful for that.

She's sitting in the passenger seat, fiddling with the rings on her hands. I place my hand on her leg trying to calm her down and reassure her that i'll be here if anything happens.

She gives me a small smile and then looks out the window. The car ride is quiet, both of us sorting through our thoughts.

After about a 10 minute car ride, I pull into the parking lot by the lake. I immediately spot him sitting on a bench looking out at the lake with his back to us.

Alexa unbuckles her seatbelt and turns to me, "i'll be right back" she says in the quietest voice.

I grab her hand before she has the chance to open the door and say, "I know you want me to stay here, and I will, but Alexa, if I see anything I don't like, i'm coming over there."

She nods her head in agreement and leans over, kissing my cheek.

She opens the door, steps out and I watch her walk towards him.

Alexa's POV

I can't believe I thought this was a good idea. I know Ben is watching but I hate being alone with Alex. I won't ever tell anyone that though.

I take my time walking to him. He's sitting on a bench, not too far away from the cars so I know Ben has a good view of us.

I really hope this goes smoothly. I don't need any drama after my life just started getting good.

When I make it to the bench, I clear my throat and he turns around and smiles at me. I give him a small polite smile back and sit down across from him.

Something I didn't mention was that although 95% of the time when he would hit me and get really angry was when he was drunk, he's still a very hot headed person and I never know what will set him off, which is where the other 5% comes in. He rarely hit me when he was sober, but it has happened.

I sit there playing with my rings nervously, waiting for him to speak.

"Alexa, why were you with him last night? You know I don't like him." He says with hatred all over his voice.

I scoff, "it doesn't matter why I was with him last night. We aren't together anymore Alex. It's not my problem anymore whether or not you like him. He's my best friend and has been all my life. Your opinion on him didn't and still won't change that."

I flinch back a little, watching him clench his fists on the bench. "Alexa, don't start with your mouth. I'm trying to stay calm here. Just tell me what you did last night. Why was he at your house so late?"

I know I should probably try and watch my mouth to not make him angry, but I can't help it. It's none of his business. Unfortunately, my body reacts on its own as I roll my eyes at him.

He can't stand when I do that.

"Alex, like I said. It's none of your business, you're not my boyfriend anymore. I don't have to give you a daily report on my day to day life. Why can't you just leave it alone? I can see this conversation isn't going anywhere so i'm gonna leave." I stand up and swing my leg over the seat to exit the picnic table, but before I can swing my other leg over, he has a firm grip on my wrist.
