Two words can describe what is about to happen right now. Dress and shopping. As I walked into the dress shop, I couldn't help but feel excited. Dress shopping has always been one of my favourite activities. Normally, I would be the one who would be fussing over the 'girlier' things while Belly was the opposite. Was. I strolled into the dress shop where we would buy our Debutate meeting dress, Susannah on my right and Belly on my left.
However, as we browsed through the racks of beautiful dresses, I couldn't help but notice Laurel's reaction. She gasped at the prices, clearly shocked by how expensive everything was.
"Oh my goodness," she exclaimed, pointing to a dress with a small piece of cardboard hanging from it, the other hand pulling on Belly's sleeve,
"This dress is a hundred dollars, even on special!" It was clear that the Conklins had less money to spend than I did, and I felt a twinge of guilt about it.
Despite the fun and excitement of dress shopping, I still couldn't help but feel that way. With parents who had shares in pretty big companies and had some of their own, I had never had to worry about prices, until a few years ago when I started working for my parents.
But still, they contributed to paying for a large faction of all my things.
"Oh don't worry Laur, it's on me." Susannah winked as Laurel rolled her eyes.
"This would look so good on you y/n!" she squealed, ignoring her best friend's eye roll. She pointed to a light purple, puffy-sleeved maxi dress with an almost corset torso up to just an inch below the chest. I was immediately drawn to the dress she pointed to. It was a mini dress with a delicate lace trim. The dress was a soft shade of baby lilac, and the lace detailing was intricate and beautiful.
"I'll try it on." I smiled, approving of her choice.
It felt like silk on my skin. the puffy sleeves were the perfect amount of thickness, and the neckline didn't seem too slutty for the debutante meeting. The corset wasn't as tight as I expected, and the waist shape showed off my curves so well. I inhaled and then exhaled. I swirled around in front of the mirror, grinning from ear to ear, feeling like a princess. I knew I had found the perfect dress.
I noticed Belly eyeing a sage green and white dress. "Get it, it would look good on you," I said, still smiling.
"You girls need to wear a fascinator!" Susannah said, pointing to the shop nearby.
"Seriously Beck? Don't you think this is a little too old for the girls?" Laurel argued
"Nope! Besides, all the girls will be wearing one! I can't wait until you find you're dating!"
I held in a frustrated groan. I would have to go with Jeremiah. The dumb idiot who thinks he's so great. Yay. Just the way I want to spend my debutante.
