"The silence stole my date?!" Mari asked in an annoyed tone.

The Doctor was still looking around the scene of the transport. "I'm afraid so." He spoke, examining the Impala.

"But he was so hot." Marianna whined to herself.

"Marianna, when was the last time you saw the silence?" The Doctor asked.

Flashback

Middle school dances are always awkward. They try to make them fun, but they're always awkward. This was what 13 year old, Marianna Black thought as she changed into her Halloween costume. She was supposed to be a which. She was starting to second guess her decision to go to this thing in the first place, but her friends would be going, so she had to go. By 'friends' she meant the only two people who gave a crap about her. The best friends anyone could have. Their names were Hilary and Charlie (Charles). So she decided she'd just go.

"Mari, you ready?" Marianna's mom called from her room.

"Just about!" She replied.

Mari sighed and put on her hat, laughing at the cliché costume.

You coming or what?
-HH (Hilary Hollins)

Yeah yeah, I'm on my way.
-MB (Marianna Black)

"Alright mom, let's go." Mari called to her mother, walking downstairs.

Her mom followed her to the car before driving her to the dance.

Present

"Mari?" The Doctor asked, after receiving no answer from her on the silence.

"Oh, umm, it was a long time ago, after you left." She explained, "The...uh...the middle school Halloween dance."

"So you've only ever seen them at the middle school?"

Marianna nodded.

"Well then, I guess it's time to go back to middle school." The Doctor told her brightly.

Mari didn't like this idea. She didn't like it at all. Middle school had been a rough two years for her. She didn't quite want to remember it at all, let alone go back to the scene of her worst memories. But she went along with it, because she trusted the doctor, even if he might be a hallucination or figment of her imagination.

She followed the Doctor into the TARDIS.

"What's going on, Doctor?" Marianna asked, "What do these things want with me? I'm no one special, trust me, so why?"

The Doctor smiled a little before telling me. "I'm afraid, Marianna, that you may be a lot more special than you care to think." With that he pulled a lever and the TARDIS was off.

They landed in the quad at Mari's old middle school. It was dark, and an the only light came from golden parking lot lamps. Mari looked around, remembering the night of the dance.

Flashback

Mari jumped out of her car. "Thanks mom." She told her mom with a small smile.

"Have fun." Her mom ordered with a kind smile.

Mari gave a half-hearted smile, before walking into the campus. She looked around and saw her friends waving wildly from the line to buy tickets. She smiled and shook her head, running over to them. She cut in line with them. "Hey guys." She greeted.

"Marianna, will you please tell Charlie that puppies are better than guinea pigs?!" Hilary whined.

Mari laughed and said, "I don't know about that, but I think the overall winner would just be cats."
