''56... 57... 58...'' (Name) sat at the kitchen table as she silently twiddled her thumbs. Directly across the table was a focused Jozu counting mini diamonds from his latest devil fruit. The Kira Kira no Mi. Angered, he only now discovered that he needed to be removed from the crew's finances due to two reasons: repairing Oden's room from damage caused by unexpected breakages and restoring the wall in the living room because of sending Rakuyo due to being the cause for the previous incident.

"Jozu-san?"

''59... 60... 61...What?"

"Od... Oden-san said you have a temper. Am I right?" she questioned meekly. His hand paused for a split second before continuing to count the diamonds. "Yes. 62... 63... 64...'' She looked back down at her hands. She had been at the base for about two weeks and stayed with Rakuyo and Oden the entire time. Those two weeks, she just saw Jozu counting diamonds, testing his new power, scribbling things in his little notebook, or getting into super scary arguments with the super tall guy with the long braid.

"Daddy says I have a temper too," she murmured. Jozu looked up from his money and raised an eyebrow. - "He told me that I got really angry once and broke his table in two." This was hard to believe considering the leader's desk was made of thick, expensive wood. Made to withstand the strength of that giant man.

"A temper, you say..." he mused quietly. Intrigued, he deposited the neat bills and put all his attention on her. She lowered her head even lower if that was possible.

"Raise your head. I don't talk to people when they're sitting right in front of me." His head snapped up, his cheeks flushed like a ripe tomato.

"S-Sorry, Jozu-san," she said. Your head might have been up, but your eyes were glued to the table to avoid his gaze. Internally, he sighed. It wasn't his intention to intimidate her to this point. He might be a grown man without many manners, but scaring WhiteBeard's son wasn't on his to-do list.

He sighed out. - "(Name), when was the last time you visited an island?" She turned her gaze to the ceiling for a few moments before looking up at him with (Favorite color) and shy eyes.

"I... I don't think I'm gone. Mom and Dad want me to stay here because it's safe." Jozu stood up.

"Come on. I have things to do and you can't be alone." Pure excitement crossed her face as she jumped up from her chair and ran towards her room.

"Let me get my jacket, Jozu-san!" He watched her go with a raised eyebrow...

. . .

...Needless to say, (Name) was absolutely ecstatic to be out in the cold wrapped in her (Favorite color) jacket and (Second favorite color) scarf. She looked around curiously, taking in all the sights and sounds of the hustle and bustle of civilian life. But no matter how curious she was, she stayed by Jozu's side. He was grateful that she didn't give him any reason to keep a constant eye. She was also very well behaved for her age, letting him do what he had to do without fuss. She was good company. Compared to Oden, at least. He felt a tug on his cloak.

"Jozu-san, what is this?" She pointed to a building where you could see books upon books stacked on the shelves.

"A library," he replied, interest piqued. - "It's a place where you read books. Would you stay there while I ran the last of my errands? I'll be back in an hour or so." She hopped from one foot to the other in suppressed excitement before waving and hurrying inside...

He took much longer than he anticipated; the last few errands took him at least three hours to complete. Night had already reached the top of the horizon and left just a sliver or rose in the distant sky. Jozu returned to the library and entered. The place became barren, the librarian nowhere to be seen.

A few tables were scattered around the room, unoccupied except for the one in the farthest corner. A small tower of books sat piled on the surface, a shock of (Favorite color) at its side. Looking around, he saw (Name) dozing silently with his head buried in his arms. Jozu ran his hand over his face and picked it up.

"Mmm...Jozu-san?" she muttered groggily.

"Sleep. I'll take you home." She hummed, wrapping her arms around his neck and burying her face in the juncture of his shoulder. Jozu stiffened in her grip and opened his mouth to scold her, but after a quick consideration, he closed his mouth and breathed out an almost silent sigh.

Maybe this time he could pass this one.
