They say on the roof of the house, looking at the vastness of the dark navy and its dappled glow. Vista had never really taken the time to look, but she had always been forward toward the future, down by her sins, behind it by ambushes of memories from her past. Above there was hope and stillness, and he could afford neither. But when (Name) held his hand and pulled him up the stairs with all her might because the stars were out, he didn't have a good excuse for refusal.
So here he was, standing outside on a rooftop with his eyes turned to the sky.
"Stars! They are like beautiful flowers!" (Name) exclaimed as she pointed above her.
"Do you think you're handsome, Vista-san?!" He looked at her.
"Yes" She smiled.
"You know what? You know what? Mom left me a story yesterday! She said that some people who go to bed don't wake up anymore I think that's not it!, they're not really missing. up, they stay until they're super shiny and a star!"
He was touched through her words.
"But I don't know a star. You?''
''Vista! Come down, I made origiri! Bring your sister too, okay?''
''I expect nothing but great things from you, Vista."
"Yo, Vista! Want to train? I'm going to kick your ass this time, for real!"
"I know...very few...''
"Really? Mom says if they are brighter, and they are smiling. And that's a good thing because all the stars are super, super bright! This means that the ba-gillions of stars have millions of smiles!". She stood up with her arms wide, as if she tried to embrace the entire sky. Vista quickly grabbed the back of her shirt before there was a chance of it falling off the roof.
"Maybe they're sad because they can't give more hugs, but that's good. Not for anymore."
"...Why do the stars smile at me?" he sighed. Her grip loosened as she threw herself back down.
"What if... what if it was my fault that some of the stars were up there in the first place? I don't deserve your smiles" (Name) tilted her head.
"You loved a lot, right?"
"Pardon me?"
"Do you love them very much, Vista-san?" she repeated.
"The stars you put in the sky." He looked at her, with a serious face, searching her big, round eyes for any kind of judgment. What else could he answer but the obvious? They were his family. (Name) moved to stand up again and Vista prepared to catch her. Honestly, why was there no harness on this child? A complete lack of self-preservation? She patted his head and he froze.
"If you love them very much, they love you very much too, silly! It doesn't matter if you do bad things because after being punished everything is fine again. I know this because I once ate one When Mom doesn't want me to do this, she got really mad and I got in trouble," she said.
"I thought Mom wouldn't love me anymore, but she still read me stories and tucked me into bed!" She smiled.
"If all stars are bad stars. They wouldn't shine and they wouldn't love you anymore."
"Father, mother, I..."
"I know, Vista... Vista, just promise me that. Take care of your brothers and don't be afraid! this is the path you chose. Compared to you, our pain will end in an instant. Even if our philosophies are different..." Vista felt a long-forgotten pain in the corners of her eyes.
" ...I'm proud to have called you my son."
He reached for (Name's) wrist, holding it almost too gently to feel but tight enough to never let go and she watched, alarmed, as he lowered his head and whispered,
"You...really are a kind child..."
