Zelda's pov
"Sit up slowly," the man orders in a stern whisper. He has dark skin and he's wearing a red jacket. "Now!"
I put my hands up and look at Link. He's still sleeping. There's a little boy pointing a gun at him and my heart pounds. How did we not wake up until it was too late?
"Wake him up," the man orders again, this time his voice shaking a little. He's scared.
"Link," I say frantically. "Link!"
His eyes pop open and he starts to roll over before he sees the boy with the gun.
"Eyes on me," the man says. "Eyes on me."
Link glares at him, probably thinking of all the ways he could kill him right now.
"You don't have to worry about what to say," the man continues. "We don't want to hurt you. We want to help you." Then why do they have guns at our heads? If he knew what Link was capable of, he wouldn't be offering help. He'd stay away.
"Okay," Link growls. He has murder in his eyes. If he doesn't trust them, neither do I.
"If I lower my gun, we didn't hurt you, so you don't hurt us. Right?"
In the most menacing way possible Link says, "That's right."
The man laughs nervously and shifts his weight. "That's a weird fucking tone man!" he says shakily.
"That's just the way he sounds!" I jump in before the man shoots us out of fear. "He has an asshole voice. Link, tell him he's okay." He always sounds like he wants to kill who he's talking to.
Link stares for a moment, contemplating his next words. "Everything is great," he says in the same murderous tone, his accent thicker than usual.
"Seriously?" I scoff. The fear of a gun to my head vanishes momentarily for me to mentally facepalm. We're trying to not get shot and Link's extremely charming personality is going to get us killed.
"Fuck," the man says. "Okay." He takes a step back and the little boy looks up to him and lowers the gun pointing at Link.
In seconds, Link is on his feet with the little boy's gun in his hand pointed at the man. I feel the muzzle of the man's gun press against the back of my head and I flinch.
"If you still want to be breathing in five seconds I suggest you drop the gun," Link hisses.
"Shit okay!" The gun clatters to the ground behind me and I snatch it up before joining Link. The man has his hands in the air and the little boy scurries over to join him. He has a red superhero mask painted around his eyes. He's not very old from what I can tell. Maybe seven or eight years old.
"You said you wouldn't hurt us." I can see his hands shaking even in the dark.
"I haven't done anything." Link turns off the safety and I check the gun I'm holding. The safety is on too. They had no intention of hurting us, just to scare us into not hurting them. "Yet."
"Fuck man! Just hear me out!"
"You have ten seconds." Now I start to panic. Would he really kill them? Would he really kill the little boy?
"We need help out of the city!" the man explains quickly. "We followed you and you seem to know what you're doing!" Link knows exactly what he's doing.
"I haven't heard a reason why I shouldn't shoot you yet."
"Please!" He pushes the boy behind him. "I'm just trying to take care of my brother."
Now Link lowers the gun slightly. He had a sibling before. The man breathes a sigh of relief.
