After the visit to the police station, Eleanora brought Tommy back home, the air heavy with the anticipation of unraveling the mystery behind this young boy. They settled on the couch, and Eleanora, with a thoughtful gaze, decided to approach the delicate conversation with caution.
Understanding the potential discomfort and fear that might arise, she opted to create a comfortable atmosphere. Eleanora turned on the TV, selecting a program that she hoped would engage Tommy.
The animated characters danced across the screen, capturing his attention as he sat beside her.
She knew that coaxing out the details of his past would require patience and a gentle touch. As the cartoon characters continued their antics, Eleanora softly began the conversation. "Tommy, do you like watching TV?" she asked, aiming to ease into the more significant questions.
Tommy, eyes fixed on the screen, nodded. "Yeah, it's fun. I like the cartoons."
Encouraged by his response, Eleanora proceeded cautiously. "Do you remember anything about where you lived before? Any names or places?"
Tommy's brows furrowed in concentration as he tried to recall. "Um... I don't know. It's all blurry."
Eleanora nodded empathetically, not wanting to push too hard. "That's okay, Tommy. We're going to try our best to find your family, and maybe they can help us remember."
As the TV continued to play in the background, Tommy, sensing the depth of the conversation, slowly made his way towards Eleanora's lap. With a mixture of vulnerability and curiosity, he rested his head on her chest, finding comfort in the warmth of her presence.
Eleanora, feeling the weight of the moment, gently wrapped her arms around him. "You're safe here, Tommy," she reassured, running her fingers through his hair. "We're just trying to find your family so they know you're okay."
Tommy looked up at her with earnest eyes, his voice soft and filled with a hint of worry. "Does it mean I will have to leave you?"
Eleanora, touched by the sincerity in his question, hugged him a little tighter. "I know this might be confusing, Tommy. Our job right now is to help you find your family. But it doesn't mean you have to leave right away. We'll make sure you're taken care of until everything is sorted out."
Tommy nodded, his head still resting against her chest. "Okay. I like it here. You're nice."
Eleanora smiled, her heart swelling with affection for the young boy who had entered her life so unexpectedly. "I'm glad you feel safe here, Tommy. We'll take things one step at a time, and I'll be here to support you."
In a moment of innocent affection, Tommy lifted his head and pressed a gentle kiss on her cheek. Eleanora, surprised and touched by the sweet gesture, couldn't help but smile warmly at Tommy. "Thank you, Tommy. That was very sweet."
Tommy, feeling a mix of shyness and satisfaction, hid his face once again in the comfort of her embrace. The innocence of the gesture resonated with the bond they had forged through the unfolding events.
