It had been a few days since Eleonora returned from the campaign with Tommy and her team. Their cozy studio apartment, small but warm, was finally starting to feel like home again. The last of their luggage still sat unpacked in the living room, and she was determined to get everything back in place before the week ended.
Tommy, on the other hand, was in his own world. He sat on the floor, surrounded by toy cars and action figures, humming to himself as he zoomed them around. His world was bright, filled with imaginary races and heroic battles, completely unaware of the scattered clothes and half-zipped bags that still needed attention.
“Tommy, don’t you want to help Mommy unpack?” she asked, half hoping he would come over to lend a hand.
He looked up briefly, grinning. “I’m busy, Mommy! Look, my cars are racing!”
She couldn’t help but smile at his excitement. “Of course, how could I interrupt a race that is important?”
Returning to the task at hand, she folded the last of their clothes and placed them back in the drawers, sighing as the weight of the trip slowly lifted from her shoulders.
As she zipped up the final suitcase and pushed it into the corner, she glanced over at Tommy, still lost in his imaginary world. His laughter echoed through the room, a sound that made everything else seem insignificant. Her thoughts briefly flickered back to the cold night she found him, and she felt a pang of gratitude for where they were now, safe and together.
Taking a deep breath, she finally sat down beside him, picking up one of his cars. "Mind if I join the race?"
Tommy’s eyes lit up. "Okay, Mommy! But you have to be fast!"
The heaviness from the past few days began to melt away, replaced by the simple joy of being home with Tommy.
On the other hand, Emmet was determined to fix things between him and Eleonora, no matter how much pain and anger still lingered. Their last encounter in Everwood had been brutal. She had laid everything bare—her sadness, her loneliness in that grand mansion where she had felt trapped, abandoned, and forgotten.
Her words had stung, piercing through his defenses.
The raw honesty in her voice had left him speechless, and as much as he wanted to defend himself, deep down, he knew she was right. He hadn’t been there for her like he should have been.
That conversation had shaken him, but it had also made him realize how badly he wanted to make things right. He couldn’t erase the past, but he could show her that he had changed, that he understood now. Emmet had tracked her down in the city, not out of obligation, but because he couldn’t let their relationship end in anger and distance.
After their confrontation in Everwood, he had returned to the mansion feeling broken, the weight of her words crashing down on him. The guilt, the shame—it had been too much to hold inside. In front of their parents, he’d finally cracked. He lashed out at them, all his pent-up emotions spilling over, blaming them for everything—their coldness, the way they had neglected Eleonora’s pain, the way they had let the family fall apart. He had never spoken to them that way before, but it felt like the only way to release the storm inside him.
He couldn’t stay in that place any longer, not after everything Eleonora had revealed to him.
Now, as he walked through the crowded city streets, the memories of his breakdown and his sister’s words echoed in his mind. He hadn’t left the mansion out of anger alone; he left because he finally saw the cracks in their perfect facade. His family wasn’t as strong as they pretended to be, and neither was he.
Eleonora was still out there, and he wasn’t ready to give up on their relationship. He had hurt her, yes, but now he was ready to fight for her—for them.

I’ve messed up before, more times than I can count. But I can’t leave things like this. I won’t. Whatever it takes, I’m going to make things right with her. She deserves that much. No more running away from this... no more pretending everything’s fine. I’ll fix this one way or another.
