Alaric's Mark sat proudly on his neck as he stood beside me in the middle of the training grounds. The pack was buzzing with excitement at the sight of the mark. Happy whispers echoed across the space and wide smiles spread across their faces. I heard some of the pack members whispering about my Luna Ceremony being announced but that is not why my mate and I were standing out here today.
Jordan and Naomi were standing beside us, their hands entwined and marks already sitting on their necks. I wasn't surprised. Mates usually mark each other after meeting for the first time. I took notice of Sophia's absence. Why wasn't she among the pack members present?
Alaric raised his hand in the air and immediately it was silent. I marvelled at the discipline. Had we been at Sword of Hera, it would have taken 10 minutes before everyone finally shut up.
"I know you are all excited to see your Alpha bearing the mark of his mate but today's meeting is not about the Luna Ceremony," Alaric started in a strong tone, "Your Luna is in no way ready to take up her official role as she is still settling among us but rest assured we will announced the date of the ceremony soon."
Disappointed sounds rippled across the crowd making my lips curl up slightly. At least they want me here.
"As you can see, beside us is your General Jordan McCourtney, and next to him is Naomi Peters, your Luna's sister and also his new mate."
A simultaneous gasp came from the pack before everyone started asking questions all at once. Alaric once again silenced them by raising his hand. Everyone now had worried looks on their faces. I could feel their anxiety wash over me, almost suffocating me as they awaited my mate's words.
"I know you are worried about Sophia and what she may do. I have already spoken to her and she has decided to leave the pack."
Oh?
Now that I think about it, Alaric did disappear about half an hour before we left home for the meeting. Was that where he went?
"She will not be a bother or nuisance to us anymore. I did give her the ultimatum to remain a member of this pack but she did not wish to stay and ran away immediately. Three of our soldiers have gone to ensure she leaves the confines of these walls. Now please congratulate your General on finally being free from that nightmare of a mate."
Cheers rang out as soon as Alaric finished speaking and the pack members closed in around us. Some of them went over to Jordan and my sister while others clambered to get a look at Alaric's mark.
"What!? Alaric, my brother, your Alpha has a mark?!" a foreign voice exclaimed causing a hush.
The sea of people parted, revealing a tall, lanky-looking man, staring wide-eyed at a random pack member. His skin was dark like Alaric's and his hair was loosely coiled, held on top of his head in a puffy, curly ponytail. He had on a coat that looked much like the one my mate wore when I saw him for the first time, only, this one was blue.
