THE LUMP THAT RESTED
IN MY DRY THROAT .
I didn't feel like my heart was just beating, no, it felt like the sound of drums playing was blasting loudly in my ear. My breathing accelerated.
Each useless breath I took felt like I had wasted another chance to escape the man behind me. My pupils dilated, my eyelids widened and my body froze, having no clue or idea on what I should do.
Should I run? No, he runs fast, especially since there's a chance that tonight wasn't the only kill in his life so far.
Should I plead and beg for mercy? He'd definitely kill me, I've seen horror movies.
Should I pretend nothing happened? Hmm...
Should I just surrender and promise not to tell anyone? ...
Finally, I turned my body around, completely facing his form. A calm, charming smile was plastered on his charming face, but I took a few steps back to keep my distance.
My eyes naturally try to avoid looking into his eyes.

His relaxed expression remains on his face, unmoving. Until he finally moves his lips to speak. "Are you alright from your wound?" he asks, voice heavy, but not too heavy for me to be able to tell what he's feeling.
"A-Ah, haha..." I awkwardly laugh, looking down and raising my foot so I can pretend to inspect my injury. "T-This? Yes, I'm alright! Thank you for your... c-concern..."
