Devon's POV

I wake up to the beaming light shining outside the window. I look around my surroundings and my eyes land on Lailah. My left arm was draped around her. Flashbacks of last night run through my head, a smile spreading on my face.

Lailah stirred and slowly began opening her eyes. She sat up once she had noticed me. "Morning."

"Morning." She winced and held her head. "Hangover?"

She chuckled as she nodded. I decide to break the ice. "So... Last night happened."

"Yeah, it did. Look, I don't usually do this."

"Me neither."

"But," she started, "I don't think we should do this again. We just met yesterday, and I think you're really great and would like to be your friend first."

I sit up and face Lailah. "Look, I understand this moved a little fast, but I really like you. I know you feel what I feel, or else you wouldn't have had sex with me."

She looks down. "I'm sorry, but I don't. I was in a really vulnerable place last night and..." She trails off. "I'm only interested in you as a friend. Okay? Nothing more. I'm not going to lie to you."

"So, you used me?" Silence fills the room. I reach over and pick up my briefs, putting them on.

"Wait, you don't have to leave."

"Yes, I do. I don't want to waste my time any more than I already have." I put on the rest of my clothes and sit down to put on my shoes.

"I'm really sorry."

"It's fine. See you Monday." I told her as I unlocked the door and left.

Lailah's POV

Devon stormed out, leaving me with my thoughts. I get out of bed and find my aspirin bottle stashed away. I pour two in my hand and go to the bathroom, leaning my head under the sink, gulping down water before drinking another mouthful and leaving it be as I drop the pills in my mouth and swallow all contents whole. I turn off the water and decide to take a shower. I turn on the water and get in.

After I get out, I pull out my phone and call Cade. "Hey. I didn't wake you, did I?"

"No. I just got home."

"Oh. So, how was your night? Get lucky?" I teased.

He nervously laughed. "Not exactly. We were making out and then her boyfriend came in the room we were in. I guess he was looking for her. Did I mention that she has a boyfriend? Well, it's probably 'had' now since she cheated on him."

"Wow. That's heavy."

"You're telling me. What about you? Where'd you end up running off to? I looked for you after I left the trouble-in-paradise couple, but couldn't find you anywhere."

I sighed and told him what happened. "And now I don't know what to do. I majorly fucked up."

"I say just give him space and talk to him the next time you see him. Don't force it. He's probably still upset. If I were in his situation, I'd need time to myself too."

I sighed and rub my forehead. "Yeah. You're right. Of course you're right."

He laughed. "Oh, Lailah. When are you going to learn that I'm always right?"

His comment makes me laugh, clutching my stomach. "Yeah, right. Were you right when you got busted for sneaking in through the classroom window our sophomore year of high school, thinking your mom wouldn't get a call that you had skipped for the entire day? Or what about when you accidentally mixed up your stash and gave your grandma weed brownies and your mom grounded you for a month? Or-" He cut off my next question. I laugh even harder as tears fog my vision.
