Lailah's POV

My phone buzzes. Startled, I pause the TV. I lean over, taking my phone off the charger and pick it up.

It's from Devon.

Devon Burke: Can I come over?

I contemplate if I should even respond. After all, he did cross some serious boundaries, and even scared me.

My brain, however, goes against my better judgment and my fingers start typing across the screen.

Lailah Woods: sure, i'll leave the door unlocked.

I hit 'send', wondering if I made the right choice.

You better not make me regret this, Devon. I sighed.

I press 'play' on the remote and lay back down.

A few minutes later, I hear a knock on the door. I pause the TV and get up from my bed. I walk over to the door and open it.

"Hey."

"Hey."

"We need to talk." Devon said as he walked inside the room.

"Yeah, we do." I close the door and stand in front of him, crossing my arms.

"Why'd you have your friend come over to my room yesterday?"

"I never asked him to do that, he was persistent. It's not like you didn't have it coming, though."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means that it's cause and effect. You crossed the line, I told Cade, and he talked to you about your inappropriate behavior."

"Okay, one, how was I being inappropriate? And two, he shouldn't have spoken to me at all, especially if it's you who really feels this way."

"Are you serious? You wouldn't keep your distance, you wouldn't stop touching me, and you basically threatened me."

"I wasn't threatening you. I was just trying to get you to see how it'd be a mistake if our baby grows up without the both of us in their life."

"Look, whatever Cade said to you last night, I don't feel the same way that he does. I know he has strong feelings towards you, but I just feel that you came on too strong. You scared me, Devon."

"I scared you?" He inched his body close as he stroked his thumb against my cheek.

"Yes."

"I just want another chance with you. Only, I want to do it right this time. No more one night stands. I want you."

His other hand traveled to my stomach, rubbing it. "I want our baby to have a family. What's so wrong with that?"

"Please let me go."

"Why? I'm not even doing anything wrong."

"Devon, I said to let me go. Now!" I manage to struggle free from his grasp.

"Woah! Easy there, princess." He leaned against my dresser. His facial expression instantly changes when he picks up the ultrasound picture.
