Lailah's POV

It's been seventeen days. Two weeks of him.

A living nightmare.

Every day, he would lose his temper. He constantly abuses me. There were days when he'd be sweet, just like he was back when we had first met, but I knew that person was long gone.

I'm stuck with a monster.

"Here." He slides a plate in front of me.

I don't move. He picks up a fork and stabs some eggs onto it. He brings the fork to my lips, but I shut my lips together, turning my head to the side.

He breathes heavily. "Open your mouth." He said menacingly as he yanks my hair. I shriek and he takes the opportunity, shoving the fork in my mouth. "See? That wasn't so hard."

"I hate eggs."

"I know you do, but they're good for you." He runs a hand through my hair. "I'm going to take a shower. Stay here and finish those."

I stare at my lap as he kisses my cheek.

He always takes a long shower after breakfast. He closes the bathroom door. Once I hear the shower, I stand up, careful to be quiet.

I walk towards the bedroom and open the drawer. I grab the key and go to the front door. I stand on my toes, taking the chain off the door with my bruised wrists. I take the key and unlock the deadbolt, before unlocking the door. I open the door and walk outside, shutting the door behind me.

I look around, unsure of what to do next. Not wanting to waste any more time, I run through a pathway in the woods. I eventually make it to the main road, passing various houses. I stop running when I see no cars around. I look around me, hoping someone would casually walk by.

I see a gas station further down the street from where I'm at. Dizzy, I blink a few times, composing myself. I begin running again, not stopping until I'm in front of the entrance.

I bang on the door. A man comes into view and opens the door. "What's the matter?" He looks down as he studies me. "What happened?"

I look behind me, wary that he followed me. "Can I please use your phone?"

"You in some kind of trouble, child?"

"Yes, sir." He leans against the door, allowing me to walk inside. "Phone's behind the register."

I go behind the register and pick up the Cisco phone, dialing 911.

"911. What is your emergency?"

"H-hello? I need help. I've been kidnapped."

"What's your name, ma'am?"

"Lailah Woods."

"Do you know your exact location, Lailah?"

"No." I cried. "I'm at a gas station. I ran away from where I was being held. I don't know the address, but it's an old house, about an hour away from Keiser."

"Keiser University?"

"Yes, ma'am."

"Do you know who your kidnapper is?"

"My classmate. Devon Burke."

"Oh, my God. I'll dispatch an officer to the scene. They should be there in an hour."

"Okay. Thank you." I hit the 'end call' button. "They're on their way. Would you mind driving me back in an hour? I want to see the bastard in handcuffs."
