Lailah's POV

It's already been twenty seven minutes. I still haven't heard from Cade.

I don't know if it's just because I've grown impatient over the last few minutes, but I'm tempted to go over to Jack's room myself and join them. I hate being left behind in the dark, waiting for answers.

I've been pacing around my room ever since Cade dropped me off. My anxiety has skyrocketed. My phone rings, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I pick it up. It's Cade.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Lai. You still in your room?"

"Yeah. Why?"

"Come over. Jack found something, but we think it's better to tell you in person. Remember, he's four doors down to the right from my room."

"I'm on my way."

I hang up. I keep my phone in my grasp and grab my keys and leave, locking the door.

I leave the dormitory and make my way to the boys'. I'm basically speed walking with anticipation in every step I take. I pass by various buildings and get waves from random strangers. Not wanting to be rude, I waved back.

In a flash, I'm standing in front of the boys' dormitory. I run up the steps and shove the door open. I walk through the hallway, making my way up the big staircase where Jack's room was. I walk further into the hallway until I reach his door. I knock on it and within seconds, Cade opens it.

"Hey. Come in."

I step inside. Jack sat in his chair as he repeatedly tapped his leg.

"Hey, Jack."

"H-hey, Lailah." He stutters. Jack's known for being shy. He also had a crush on me our freshman year of high school. Well, one day, he told me and I led him into an empty classroom and politely let him knew that I wasn't into him, and he's been weird around me ever since.

"Thanks for doing this. I know that it's been a while since we've talked."

"Three years and two hundred and forty days to be exact." He takes me in. "You look terrific."

"You remember how long it's been?"

"Yeah. The last time we spoke was at graduation. Sorry. You must think that I'm weird."

"No, not at all. You just surprised me. Besides, you've always been smart."

Jack smiled.

"And thank you. You look pretty good yourself as well." He gives me a small close-lipped smile.

"You always were sweet."

"So," I start, "What'd you find?"

Jack clears his throat. "That's just it. It wasn't much. Whoever has it in their possession has it turned off, so I can't locate where the phone currently is. However, I did manage to find out who the owner of the phone belongs to."

"That's okay, Jack. At least you got something. So, who does it belong to?"

"Elliott Holloway. He's a sophomore, A-plus student, and is on the dean's list."

"Do you know which room he's in?"

"Downstairs, room 103. Wait, you're not seriously going to confront him, are you?"

"You're kidding me, right? If he really is the one behind all of this, I'm going to show him that I'm not afraid of him and kick his fucking ass."

"I understand that you want answers, but you don't have to result to violence."
