                                                Chapter 17

"That is enough for today. Well done, Deltaro." Ralphonse says.

Her student needs a moment to catch her breath after extensive gathering and binding of hama. For one so young and so new at casting, she is surprisingly good at making so many water spheres at a time.

"Can we do bigger spells next time?" Deltaro asks.

"No, you must fully master the binding of hama. Creation of spells will not be any greater than what you have done today until Introduction to Plateotonic magic. I am assuming that is what you prefer to take." Ralphonse says.

"Is that what you teach?" Deltaro asks.

"Yes, but don't let that affect your decision." she says with a soft chuckle. "I only suggested because you seem more enthused by the creation of spells."

"Is that bad?" Deltaro asks.

"Its normal. Hermeutics is a school of magic students usually only go for when their understanding of magic becomes more nuanced. It is a very difficult school of magic to master. The best way to put this, what other classes do you take?" Ralphonse asks.

"Its uh, remedial reading and math." Deltaro says.

"Introduction to broad magic, is sort of like remedial math, and hermeutics is akin to more complex mathematics, like Lumenarian equations." Ralphonse says.

"Will that make me tired too?" Deltaro asks.

"Binding hama is very tiring early on. Think of it like running for exercise. When someone starts out, they start going as fast as they can and immidiately tire out. The mind and body have to become accustomed to knowing how to pace themselves. As you practice more and get used to binding hama, it gets easier." Ralphonse says.

"Then I can create lots more spells." Deltaro says.

"It is a little early, but I don't want to push you too far. You've gotten what you need out of this class today. Go home a bit early." Ralphonse says.

A head and arm rises from the floor behind Deltaro, who is completely oblivious to it. The eyes on that head stare at the child.

Ralphonse keeps herself under firm control, willing her face not to show any alarming expressions to her still oblivious student.

"In fact, let me walk you back so I can tell your big brother how you're doing today." Ralphonse says, quietly firing a beam of light from her finger tips that aniahlates the dark, amphibious creature rising from the floor.

She forces the beam to be silent.

"Was that a light?" Deltaro asks.

"Don't worry, one of the rune lights went out. That happens some times." Ralphonse says.

Deltaro takes Ralphonse happily by the hand.

"Oh, Deltaro, a student should not hold a teacher's hand." Ralphonse says.

"Is it bad?" Deltaro asks.

"You should only do that with people you know well." Ralphonse says gently, looking behind her.

Outside of the class room, she senses another, simiraly fiendish presence. and more as well. Damn the fates, they're dormant, but all over. She throws the door open, able to tell one is in front of her, even as it remains beneath the surface.

"Professor?" Deltaro asks.

Where are these oneir spawn coming from?

Damn the fates, who in this school could have an oneir attacking them?
