"Hey, Rosemary!" a voice called out from behind Will.

His muscles tensed at the voice and the both of them turned, Rosemary giving Jackson a little smile.

"Hi, Jackson," she said.

Will blinked in shock as his head whipped toward his sister, eyes wide. The heck was that?

Jackson smiled at her, and when Will met his eyes, Jackson's smile turned to a smirk. He turned and sped away toward his locker.

"That's Jackson Crowle," he informed her.

"I know," she replied.

"He's a bully, Rosemary."

"Have you seen him bully anyone these days, Will?"

Yes.

Me.

"That doesn't mean anything—"

"It does, Will. You don't understand what he told me. He's angry, he's hurting."

"And so are we, Rosemary! Do you see me or you bullying middle schoolers?" Will shook his head. "He's not a good person. Please don't be friends with him," he begged.

"Will..." Rosemary sighed at the look on his face. "Okay, fine. Sure, if I feel that he's not a good person to be friends with, I won't."

"Ro—"

"That's as far as I'm going, Will."

"Fine." But in his head, he was chanting the same words, over and over.

Please don't hurt her.

"This is what your brain looks like right now," Dr. Hamilton said, holding out Rosemary's brain scan from earlier.

"What's that?" Rosemary wondered, pointing at a little discoloration on the side. It was the size of her pinkie fingernail.

"That's just a bit of the aftermath of the coma," he said. "It's been like that for a few weeks. It'll probably disappear in a month or so."

She smiled. "And when it's completely gone...?"

"You won't see me again," Dr. Alexander said with a grin. "Promise."

"Okay," she breathed. "Just one more month."

"Just one more month," her doctor promised, "and you'll be as good as new. But, I'd also like to book in an observation night for you. Do you know what those are?"

She shook her head.

"We'll keep you here overnight to monitor your brain activity," he said. "We know what it's like when you're awake, but we want to see what it's like when you're sleeping."

"Okay," she said. "But you'll have to take that up with my parents."

"Of course, we'll give them a call," said Dr. Hamilton. "You're free to go, Rosemary."

She beamed at the thought that she'd finally be healed, and said, "Thank you, Dr. Hamilton," as she left, shutting the door behind her.
