"Where are you going?"
Rosemary glanced up from her phone. She found Jackson in front of her, basketball tucked under his arm, an easy smile on his face. Her stomach fluttered like it always did nowadays whenever she saw him.
"Walmart," she said. "My mom needed some groceries."
"Alone?" Jackson frowned.
She nodded.
"I'll come with you," he offered. "For company."
Rosemary tilted her head, smiled, and shrugged. "Sure, why not?" she questioned. "You can come with me."
"Cool." He smiled brightly, turning so that he was now walking with Rosemary side by side. "What's up at your place?"
"Oh, nothing much, really." Rosemary twisted a lock of her brown hair around her finger before she tucked it behind her ear. "You know. Same old, same old."
He nodded. "Same here."
They walked in comfortable silence, Jackson's long strides growing smaller to match Rosemary's pace. The birds sang from the power lines, the sun dipping down toward the horizon, turning the sky colors of reds and pinks and oranges.
"I'm glad we saw each other that day in the graveyard," said Jackson quietly. "I'm glad that we sorted everything out."
"Me, too." Rosemary smiled to herself. "I'm glad we're friends now."
"Yeah, same." Jackson's hand brushed against hers and more butterflies erupted in the pit of Rosemary's stomach. She shivered.
Moments passed, and slowly, Jackson's fingers touched her palm, sliding down towards her fingers, his palm finally resting against hers.
