The stench filled her nose almost immediately, one she was not yet accustomed to. The stench of death.

Everything pieced together one sense at a time. First was the smell, the rotting flesh of others who had come before her and of other prey. From the deafening silence came the deep, guttural noise. Neither roar nor growl, but a warning none the less. The noise had caused a gust of wind, blowing through her hair. She crinkled her nose as the smell came at her full speed. Whatever it came from, it took Everything she had not to cough or vomit at the smell.

Next was her sight. Instead of the deep darkness, a green light came slowly. Closer and closer, warmer and warmer. She gasped and attempted to jump aside to avoid what she now saw was dragon flame. A beautiful mix of green and black, she attempted to close her eyes or scream as she was enveloped in the fire.

She felt nothing. Not the sting of her flesh melting from her bones, the crushing of her corpse as she was eaten. Nothing. She opened her eyes and her breath got caught in her throat. There she was, staring straight into the pits of hell. Or the mouth of an untamable beast, the same thing in her mind. The yellow, jagged teeth bared aggressively. The heat unimaginable as it breathed on her, and the same smell of its enemies on its tongue.

Daring to look up, she had to crane her neck to see the rest of the beast's face. If not for the green flame that had come from its mouth, and the mismatched eyes, it blended in completely with the blackness of the cave. The perfect camouflage,  black as Maegor's soul. The rest of its face was covered in scars, ones she assumed were from other dragons or struggling prey. If she looked to its left, she could see the tough and leathery skin had been pulled away from the corner of its mouth, revealing more of its disgusting teeth and tongue. It also had a missing horn, she noted, leaving a circular scar in it's place. It was the ugliest thing she had ever seen.

But maybe that was what made it so appealing to her. The beast roared once more, and she closed her eyes as she allowed to dragon to do as it pleased.
