My nose and knuckles turn red from the cold nipping at me. I shiver and rub my shoulders with a chatter. Then, as if on queue, a singular snowflake decides to fall gracefully onto my hand, dissipating into water. My somber mood cannot compete with the beautiful sight that is the beauty of the snow turning the land white and fluffy—the moon complimenting the vibrant glow. My smile sinks recalling how troublesome winter has been in years prior causing starving tummies and colds onto the weak. Sighing, my head plummets into my crossed arms.

Knock, knock

I ignore the knocks hoping whoever it was would believe I'm asleep and leave me be. My (f/c) night gown blows lightly in the chilly breeze, my body trembling before it.

"(Y/n), may I speak to you?"

The muffled sound of Jinshi's voice passes through the wooden door. I spin around excitedly to greet him.

"Please do Master Jinshi."

With that he enters my quarters, causally wearing a thin light blue robe and his hair loosely flowing down his chest. His bangs fall into his eyes as he pulls them back, scooping them with his long, slender fingers then allowing them to fall back into place.

"You know I adore your cooking (Y/n), so I was rather disappointed when I was told you went in early tonight. Why is that?"

His hurt filled voice made me look away in shame. The truth being a pain in my chest as I recall my life before this palace that has clean drinking water, food on the table, and a lively community for which I was never accustomed to. Nonetheless, I can't help but miss what I never had. To be awaken by your mother's cooking or waving your papa goodbye as he heads off to work— a reality I never will live.

Lost in my thoughts, I forget to respond until a warm thumb lands on my chin, pulling my face up to see his pinky hues. My face must say it all as Jinshi's expression softens into one of compassion. I reach my fingertips up to touch his hand.
