"Why are we going to Brandon's again?" Cesar asked as he dragged his feet, "I didn't get to really catch up with him at the party." I shrugged and he rolled his eyes before turning to look at Eddie who shrugged "I'm just here because Oscar won't let me stay home alone like I'm some kind of baby." He shot me a dirty look and I laughed a little, "after this I'll drop you off you can go kick it with Luis at Ruby's house- happy?"

He muttered something, and I swear I heard him say he'd kick me at Ruby's house but I just ignored it and knocked on Brandon's front door.

"Do you think there's still blood stains from when Justin got his head blown clean the fuck off by Cruz or what?" Cesar laughed as he looked all around, Eddie frowned at him and shook his head "that's not funny and that's not how he died plus they killed him in the house."

Cesar snapped his fingers at Eddie, "oh yeah- didn't Dad bust the door open? And then what happened Oscar?"

They both looked at me and I rubbed my head as I sighed "Dad and Cruz pulled up, Justin was outside fixing his car in the driveway they exchanged words apparently he said some shit Dad ain't like so Dad pulled out the strap and popped his ass in the leg as he tried to run to the door. He got inside and locked them out so Dad shot up the door, caught him again in the thigh and when they got inside Cruz stabbed him forty seven times from his chest up to his face-closed casket."

Both of my brothers were quiet and staring at me, Cesar cocked his head to the side and frowned and Eddie shook his head "that was a little extreme don't you think?"

Cesar shrugged when I looked at him, then my eyes landed on Eddie "Safiyah was his wife."

Eddie slowly nodded, "do you think it's scary to love someone that much you'd kill for them like that? That's why you killed Big Smoke right? You loved Brandon that much." I nodded too, "yeah he's my best friend of course I love him he's like a brother to me."

This time Cesar scoffed, "that fool is not your brother." Cesar had a huge problem with Brandon, and so did Chuey- it was like they hated his guts sometimes, and even though neither of them said it I feel like they wished Big Smoke killed him that night but Brandon hasn't ever given them a reason to hate him so much.

The door finally opened, and I was face to face with Natalie "Spooks?" She stepped out to give me a hug and I smiled as I hugged her back, "Tio!" Camila ran out to give me a hug just as I pulled back from her mom but Natalie still had me in a tight grip.

"Oh wow, look at you you're so big." I knelt down and gave her a high five when I finally broke free from Natalie and she scoffed "give her a hug she missed you."

I smiled at Camila and stood, "uh I'm actually here to see your brother." I said and Natalie rolled her eyes "he doesn't live here. He lives with his little girlfriend," she said as she waved her hand at me.

"Oh- they serious then huh?" I asked as I tried to push down that turning feeling in my stomach, it was starting to feel like that breakfast burrito I ate this morning was making its way back out of me.
