A Better Man

Damon gets back to the Boarding House and sees the whole gang is there now.

As soon as he spots Tyler he lunges for him.

"Damon, don't!" Caroline calls out as Stefan helps her to hold him back.

Elena comes and stands in front of them, "No, Damon, not Tyler, okay. He was just protecting Caroline, this isn't his fault, we'll do whatever we have to to get Rose back but just leave Tyler alone," she says.

He keeps trying to fight his way free of Stefan and Caroline to get to Tyler and Elena puts her hand on his arm trying to calm him down.

"Damon please, okay? He's one of us, we have enough people out there we have to fight let's not turn on each other," she tells him.

He looks down to her hand and stops fighting as Stefan and Caroline tentatively step away still staying close in case he snaps again.

"You need to stop doing that," Damon tells Elena.

"Stop doing what?" She asks.

"Assuming that I'll play the good guy because it's you who's asking," he says.

"Be the better man, Damon," she tells him.

"Not for you, Elena," he tells her, it's clear his comment hurt her but he can't bring himself to care at the moment. 

"Then do it for Rose," She tells him, "She wouldn't want you hurting Tyler any more than I would," she points out.

"Man, I'm really sorry I didn't know what else to do," Tyler says piping up.

"You, don't talk," he says to Tyler barely containing his rage.

"Where's Bonnie?" he asks looking around.

"Here," Bonnie says walking over to him.

"I'm gonna need your help," he tells her.

"If it's for Rose, of course, but I'm not helping you hurt Tyler," she tells him.

"That, I assure you, I wouldn't need your help with, I mean all I'd have to do is tell him I'm the one who really killed dear Uncle Mason."

"Damon!" Caroline shouts horrified.

"What? No, that... no" Tyler stutters not believing him.

"Yup, ripped his heart right out of his chest like it was nothing," he says taunting Tyler.

Tyler looks around waiting for someone to call bullshit, to say he's lying but no one does. 

Damon smirks at Tyler's reaction.

"Enough, Damon," Stefan says trying to get his brother under control.

"What? You don't want me to kill him, fine, won't lay a finger on the kid," he says knowing words could do just as much damage if not more before turning back to Bonnie not caring when he hears Tyler run out of the house.

"Now, any chance you know of a way to make a recently deceased person appear less so, at least for long enough to do a prisoner exchange," he asks.

"So you did kill Jules," Stefan says.

"Not the time, brother," Damon tells him.

Stefan shakes his head and goes to find Tyler hoping to do some damage control.

He finds him outside looking up at the moon.

"Hey, you alright?" he asks.

"What do you think?" Tyler says looking back down.
