POV:ENID
Olivia’s house was as big as I had expected, but surprisingly warm—inviting even.
The foyer was wide and bright, decorated with framed family pictures in different sizes. A tall curved window with a cushioned bench sat to one side. It was absolutely divine, and I knew if I lived here, I’d spend every single day curled up reading in that spot.
"Olivia, is that you?" a feminine voice called out, stopping us on the stairs.
Olivia let out a sigh, already sounding defeated. From that alone, I knew it had to be her mom.
Footsteps padded into the foyer. "Finally, you’re home. I got a call from Principal Martins aga—" the voice stopped abruptly. My gaze flicked to the woman—an older version of Olivia, with the same bright eyes.
"And who is this?" she asked, her tone soft and curious instead of sharp.
Something about her voice told me Olivia’s childhood had been safe. Happy.
"This…" Olivia’s lips curled mischievously, and dread shot through me. I knew exactly what she was about to do. I opened my mouth to stop her, but she beat me to it.
"This is my girlfriend, Enid. And Enid, this is my mom." Olivia flashed me a devilish smile.
Girlfriend?! Is she insane?!
Her mom’s whole face lit up. "Girlfriend?" she repeated, sounding excited.
I stumbled for words, about to deny it, when she wrapped me in a hug.
"Yes," Olivia confirmed sweetly behind me, the little traitor.
"Your first girlfriend? Wow. Wait until I tell your mama," she said, her tone bright and giddy.
Olivia has two moms? That was… really cute.
I had nothing against gay people—even though I was raised to. But maybe that’s the thing—we get to choose who we want to be, not just who we’re told to be. And my best friend is bisexual, for crying out loud.
"It’s really nice to meet you, Mrs. Grayson," I said, my voice soft but genuine.
Her smile widened. "Please, call me Emma."
She was so much nicer than I expected. Honestly, I thought she’d be the typical rich, stuck-up mom.
I grinned back. "Then it’s nice to meet you, Emma."
She nodded, stepping back. "We’ll have to have you over for dinner soon—"
"Mom, can we talk about this later?” Olivia cut in, lifting our soggy shoes. “We really need a shower, and we have somewhere to be."
Emma gave us a look of curiosity but waved us on. "Fine, fine. Go."
I offered her one last shy smile before following Olivia upstairs.

Her room was dim and a little cold, but huge.
