POV: Enid
"All of you to my office now!" Principal Martins shouted angrily before storming off.
The next thing I knew, we were all crammed inside his office. All eight of us.
"I’m so disappointed in you, Leah." Principal Martins’ voice was laced with frustration as he shook his head at Leah, who was staring at the floor, fidgeting with her fingers under the table.
"I’m sorry, Dad," Leah muttered without looking up.
"It won’t happen again. I promise."
Her fingers crossed quickly under the table told a different story.
"It better not, Leah Dolly Martins," the principal said, like it wasn’t the first time he’d heard that promise.
Leah flushed in embarrassment at her middle name, keeping her gaze down. My friends and I exchanged looks, pursing our lips to hide our laughter—until Marisa’s sharp glare silenced us.
"And what about you, Miss Grayson? What happened to the promise you made to your parents and me the last time you were here?" Principal Martins asked, his eyes narrowing on Olivia like he couldn’t risk looking away for even a second.
"Can I ask you something, Mr. Martins?" Olivia drawled, as unbothered as ever.
He gave her a skeptical look but sighed. "Go on."
"What the fu—"
"Language!" he snapped before she could finish.
The stupid blonde just raised her hands in mock surrender, rolling her eyes. She flopped into the chair, tossing her feet onto the table.
"Feet down, Miss Grayson!"
Olivia obeyed, but only after dragging it out, her smirk daring him to lose his patience.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, looking more tired than angry now. "I’m not going to ask who started it or what happened between you—"
"I had nothing to do with what went down in the cafeteria, so I don’t know why the hell I’m still here," Olivia interrupted coolly. Then she stood, slammed the door, and walked out.
The rest of us sat there, completely unfazed, like it was normal for her to walk out on the principal.
"I’ll let this slide this time," Principal Martins said finally, rubbing his temple.
A chorus of "thank you" spilled out of us.
"But if anything like this happens again, none of you will get off without punishment. Am I clear?"
We all nodded quickly.
"You can go back to class. Except you, Miss Jones. I have a few things to discuss with you."
๑
After leaving his office, I found myself climbing the stairs to the rooftop.
By the time I reached the last step, the frustration boiled over.
"He just had to rub it in my face that I’m only here as charity—to make the school look good!" My voice cracked as I shouted.
"I hate this school! I hate those golden four! And I hate my life!" The words tore out of me, and I realized my cheeks were wet. Again.
"Why do I have to be such a crybaby?" I groaned, scrubbing angrily at my tears.
"If you’re done hating us and your life, you can kindly leave now. I’d like to get back to my nap."
The familiar voice made me spin around. And of course—it was the stupid blondie herself. Olivia.
She lounged in the corner on a blue nap mat, a small white pillow tucked under her head. Unbelievable.
I quickly wiped my face, refusing to let her see me weak. I glared at her straight in those annoyingly beautiful blue eyes.
She scoffed, stretching as she stood. My gaze betrayed me, trailing over her messy blonde hair, the tight black leggings hugging her curves, the oversized flannel hanging loose over her t-shirt. She looked effortlessly hot.
Wait. No. Not hot.
Annoying.
Annoyingly hot.
The thought made me bury my face deeper in denial.
When I glanced back, she was smirking knowingly, like she’d caught me.
"If you’re done checking me out, babe, you can kindly get the fuck out of here."
"And if I don’t?" I shot back, refusing to back down. "This is school property, not your house."
"You won’t like what I’ll do," she said smoothly, stepping closer. Her mischievous smile didn’t reach her eyes, which burned with challenge.
The faint trace of cinnamon cologne hit me, knocking every thought out of my head.
She tilted her head, scanning my face slowly, like memorizing every detail. Then she leaned in.
Is she trying to kiss me?
My eyes widened as her lips drew closer, her eyes fluttering shut. Panic shot through me, and I shoved her shoulders as hard as I could.
"I fucking hate you, Grayson!" I shouted.
She chuckled softly, unbothered. "The feeling’s mutual, babe." With a wink, she left me standing there, frustrated and speechless.
I groaned and stormed off toward the stairs, desperate to be anywhere but here.
