I work with Xaden, Sygael and Lu on controlling my speed over the next few weeks and it is safe to say I have pretty good control over it now, and man it makes stuff so much easier, I can sleep in and sped run getting ready, pull practical jokes, and my reflexes have gotten quicker, even when I'm not using my speed. With all my systems speeding up Ive found I heal much faster than a normal person now and my metabolism burns through everything in a flash so I am ALWAYS hungry even when I'm not using my speed. My endurance has also skyrocketed, I could run for hours and not get tired, much to the dismay of everyone else.
"I hate you" Ridoc pants as he collapses on to the floor. My squad mates and I have all made it a habit to go on runs together every morning to help with endurance.
"Oh come on it wasn't that bad" I say not even sweating "I didn't even use my speed I ran normally" I say
"Ya...but your...endurance ....is ....crazy....now." Violet says bending over
"This isn't even fair anymore" Rhi says lacing her hands over her head. Even Liam is catching his breath
"Ya let's tone it down a bit next time Chlo" Liam pants
Wimps
Right I say back and laugh
"Ya listen to your boyfriend!" Ridoc shouts and I roll my eyes. Ridoc has been doing that for the past few weeks but neither of us has corrected him.
"Hey if you have enough breath to talk you have enough breath to run." I say to Ridoc in a sig songy voice, that shuts him up real quick.
"Tap out!" Rhi screams out as a rider from second wing fights against Liam's hold. If he wins his last fight we will jump up to 3rd place. After 2 events were in 7th place, even with my time being the fastest in the sky gauntlet race Violet placed last so it held us up from jumping much higher.
The other rider cries out in pain and finally taps out, Liam lets him go and our squad cheers. I run over to him once he's off the mat and he picks me up spinning me around.
"You did it!" I say
"We did it, couldn't have gotten this far without your flying" he says in my ear
"We're both pretty awesome I guess" I whisper back as he sets me down and our squad envelops us cheering Liam on. After we're done commander Pancheck steps on to the mat.
"Now I know you're all expecting the last portion of the squad battle tomorrow but the cadre and I have a surprise. Instead of telling you the final test and giving you tonight to plan for it the task will begin this hour!"
"Tonight?" Ridoc whispers
"Dain isn't here, neither is Cianna." Vi says
"Oh shit."Imogen mutters mirroring my thoughts
"As you may have noticed you squad leader and their executive officer are not here. They along with your section and wing leaders have been sequestered, and before you ask no your task is not to find them. You are to break in to your squads and complete a unique mission without the leadership of your squad leaders." He finished
"Doesn't that defeat the purpose of squad leaders?" Someone says from the other side of the mat
"The purpose of squad leaders is to form a tightly knit group who can carry on the mission after their demise. You are on your own riders, your mission is simple: find and acquire by any means necessary, the one thing that would be most advantageous to our enemies regarding the war effort. Leadership will be unbiased judges and the winning squad will be awarded 60 points!"
"That's enough to put us in first!" I whisper. Pancheck then says we have 3 hours to complete our task.
"Second squad follow me!" Imogen shouts and we all follow her like lost puppies. She leads us in to an empty room then closes the door and locks it.
"First thing, who wants to be in command?" Imogen asks. Ridoc throws his hand in the air but Rhi forces it back down
"No you'll turn this in to some practical joke" she says
"Fair point" he shrugs and Imogen turns to us
"Liam? Chloe?" But we both shake our heads knowing we can't
"No one's going to try to off me while we're out tonight." Vi says
"You know every time you say that someone ends up trying to kill you." I say and she just rolls her eyes
We eventually decide to keep Imogen in charge we spend the next 30 minutes or so discussing our options to steal, until Sorrengail starts to get her mind going and comes up with the idea to break in to her mom's office.
"You are so fucking creepy!" Ridiculous says shivering at Quinn's astral projection form. We are currently sneaking through the hallways past the healers quadrant to the flight of stairs that will lead us to the Generals office.
"6 flights up" Ridoc whines staring up at the large stair case.
"Yep" I say sighing, but then remembering my signet
"Too bad I'm not walking" I say with a smirk and take off up the stairs which a few minutes later are filled with my fellow squad members.
"I'm really starting to dislike your signet" Ridoc frowns
"Aww even when I can do this?" I say running back down the stairs and to the kitchen and stealing one of Ridoc's favorite cookies and bring it back to him in less than a second.
"Never mind I love you and your signet!" Ridoc smiles taking the cookie from my out stretched hand
"Psst! Focus you two!" Imogen interrupts and we both salut her and stay quiet.
My job was to keep watch with Liam outside the doors. When the door of the closet we put the guard in looks like it's about to break, we give our squad the signal to get out. Just as they open the door the guard breaks through and starts yelling at us to stop what we're doing.
"Violet! Give me whatever you took and I'll run it back!" I say quickly and Sawyer hands me what looks like a rolled up map. I don't question it and bolt back to the battle brief room. I skid to a stop as all eyes in the room move to me, looks like we are the last group to arrive and just under the time.
"Cadet Kane where is the rest of your squad?" Panchek questions
"They'll be here any second" I say hoping I'm right and I don't have to present something I know nothing about, and thank the gods a few minutes later my squad rolls in. I hand the item back to Violet and go to stand by Liam.
"For our item we present to you an up to date map of all current outposts of Navarrian wings, including troop strength of infantry battlements and all current skirmishes in the last 30 days." Violet presents
"And how do we know this map is in fact current?" Professor Kaiori asks
"Because it came from General Sorrengails office" Violet smiles and the whole room breaks in to chaos.
